Function documentationImport and Export of Content

A branch in Solution Documentation contains specific business content. It can contain for example scenarios, processes and library elements. You can import and export content in solution administration.

Export of Content to a File

With the export function, you can export the branch content of a solution to a file and store it locally. All documents assigned in the branch content can be optionally collected in a separate transport request, which is to be used to transfer the content of the documents into a different SAP Solution Manager system as target.

Note that content elements of the following types are not yet supported by the export/import function: job documentation, alerting, analytics, alerting on analytics, technical bill of material (TBOM), and test configuration.

For the export of content proceed as follows in solution administration:

  1. In your solution, select Export from the Global Functions menu. The system opens the dialog Export content from solution description.

  2. Select the branch and the scope of the content you would like to export.

  3. You can mark the option Include KW documents.

  4. Choose Export to start the export.

As soon as the export is finished a file download popup appears. Select Save to save the collected content as a json file on your local Computer. The default file name is concatenated from contain solution, branch and scope titles.

If you selected the Include KW documents option and the selected content has assigned documents, the name of the transport request is listed in the at the top od the screen. With transaction SE09 you can check whether this transport request of type Transport of copies is available and contains corresponding document object entries.

Import of Content from a File

With the import function, you can import content from a file into a branch of another solution in the same or different SAP Solution Manager system. If you have logical component groups in you target solution, you need to do a mapping between the logical component groups defined in the source content and the logical component groups defined in your target solution. A logical component group of the source content can only be assigned to exactly one logical component group of your target solution.

For the import of content proceed as follows in solution administration:

  1. In your solution, select Import from the Global Functions menu. The system opens the dialog Import content into solution description - Source.

  2. Select option Content from a local file.

  3. Select a file with Solution Documentation content and choose Next to continue.

If the selected file is invalid an error message is displayed. Otherwise the system opens the dialog Import content into solution description - Target.

  4. Select a branch as target from the dropdown list. In the mapping table you are able to map the logical component groups defined in the source content to the logical component groups of your solution. Optionally, you can select further import options.

If a branch with active change management integration is selected, a second dropdown list is displayed where you can choose the change document. If there is no change document available the dropdown is empty. In this case an error message is displayed and you are not able to continue as the content import is not possible.

  5. If the preconditions for the content import are fulfilled, choose Import.

The system starts the content import in a background job and displays a success message.

Import from SAP Best Practices Packages

You can also import content from SAP Best Practices Packages (SAP BPP). An SAP Best Practices Package contains specific business content that can be imported into a branch. It can contain, for example, scenarios, processes or library elements. After a package was imported it will disappear from the list of available packages. The import can not be undone.

You must have at least one logical component group in your target solution, because a package can contain content which is assigned to a logical component group. If so, you need to do a mapping between the logical component group defined in the package and the logical component group defined in your target solution. A logical component group of a package can only be assigned to exactly one logical component group of your target solution.

For the import of a package proceed like described above in section Import of Content from a File. However, select option SAP Best Practices Packages. If the import was successful, the table in the SAP Best Practices Packages tab displays all successfully imported packages.
