Create Task to Get Session Data

Usage

This task collects and sends system data, which is analyzed in a service session, in your SAP Solution Manager system or an SAP system. The analysis produces a report that highlights potential or current issues with your system. If the session runs at SAP, the report is made available in SAP Service Marketplace.

The Get Session Data task checks for the existence of relevant data. If so, it is sent. If no suitable data is available, new data will be collected and sent.

Procedure

To create a task to get session data:

  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Task Next navigation step Create End of the navigation path.

  2. Choose Get Session Data and Continue.

  3. Choose task type Get Session Data.

Tasks to get session data can be periodic, if the service session is periodic.

Periodic tasks to get session data for periodic service sessions, in an SAP system.

Schedule the periodic task Get Session Data weekly.

Non-periodic tasks to get session data are performed once for test purposes.

This test data collection is not connected to a specific session, it has its own session number. This test checks the quality of the session data that will be collected, before a standard session.

A non-periodic task to get session data can be created and run immediately to perform this test.

  4. Choose Continue.

  5. Schedule the task, or choose Now.

Default Settings schedules the task for in two minutes, and reads in the current task-specific settings again.

Non-default collection date: You can change the default date for collecting data non-periodic test data. The default is the task date assigned to the data collection. This specifies the period within which data is collected.

To collect data for a different time period, set a different date from the default. This setting is seldom required, by SAP Service engineers.

  6. Choose the SAP RFC destination to which the session data will be sent.

For periodic data collection, choose an SAP destination.

Non-periodic test data collection tasks are only processed in your local system. The RFC destination is automatically set to NONE.

To determine whether a destination is defined, check the task-specific settings.

  7. Choose Confirm.

A new background task is created, and its task number is displayed.

  8. Non-periodic test tasks:

See the detail log for the task, after the test, for errors. (Double-click on the Log icon for the task.) If errors occurred, check whether they are relevant to the session. If so, try to resolve them and repeat the data collection until the data collected is acceptable. Test session numbers contain the letter 'I' to distinguish them from normal session numbers.

This test session data collection does not change the original Get Session Datan task of the default session of this session type.

    Note Note

Note that the test session data cannot be sent to another system.

    End of the note.
