The program Display Gray
tells you whether there are grayed-out metrics, whose data is not correctly collected, in your system landscape. A metric has the status Gray
if the validity period of the last measured value has been exceeded. By default, this period is twice the period between two value measurements.
You can set filters in the program, to determine whether specified metrics or managed objects (e.g. systems, instances or hosts) are being monitored correctly. You can save filter settings as a variant to be able to repeat the check.
Note
The program Metric, Event and Alert Details
(see Using the Metric, Event and Alert Details Program) can also only output grayed-out metrics. The difference is that the Display Gray
program is to display selected the grayed-out metrics for particularly important metric types or managed objects, not for troubleshooting. The list of grayed-out metrics is also output as an ALV grid, for further processing, such as exporting to Microsoft Excel.
To call the Display Gray
program, call the transaction MAI_TOOLS. Go to expert mode, and, in the Analysis
tab, choose Display Gray
.
You can select which grayed-out metrics are displayed. You have the following selection options:
Technical Scenario
To restrict the check by monitoring use cases, enter a technical name in the field Technical Scenario
, such as T_SYS_MON
to monitor a technical system.
Entry Point
There is a hierarchy of managed objects for each monitoring use case (which may only consist of a single level). The entry point is the top hierarchy level for these MOs.
Example
The entry point for the use case System Monitoring
is the technical system, the types technical instance
, Host
and Database
are below it in the hierarchy.
Managed Object Name
The managed object name is a technical name which is output in the monitoring interface. In System Monitoring, for example, the naming convention for ABAP instances is <system ID>~ABAP~<instance name> (upper-case).
Managed Object Type
There are various types of managed objects, depending on the monitoring use case.
Example
The types in System Monitoring
are Technical Systems
, Hosts
, Technical Instances
, and Databases
.
Category
You can filter the metrics to be displayed by categories (Availability
, Configuration
, Performance
, Exception
, Self-Monitoring
)
Metric/Alert/Event Name
The Metric/Alert/Event Name is the technical name of the object. You can get it from the Alerting Directory Browser by selecting a managed object in the navigation bar, and then the Metric
, Alert
or Event
. This technical name is output in the detail view, in the Other
tab.
Grayed-Out Periods in Seconds
You can restrict the display of grayed-out metrics to those which have been in gray
status for at least a specified minimum number of seconds.
Once you have specified which grayed-out metrics you want to display, choose the (Execute
) button. The grayed-out metrics are displayed in an ALV grid.
Note
The Time from
column contains the timestamp of the last value of the metric. If there was no last value, i.e there have been no values of the metric, the value in the column is 0.
