Process documentationExecuting the Configuration Scenarios

The SAP Solution Manager Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP) is based on a guided procedure framework, divided into scenarios. These contains steps and substeps with manual or automatic activities:

1. Perform the Mandatory Scenarios

For new installations or upgrades, execute at least the Mandatory Configuration and Managed Systems Configuration scenarios:

  • System Preparation: Configure prerequisites for configuring SAP Solution Manager.

  • Infrastructure Preparation: Configure the SAP Solution Manager landscape and landscape components.

  • Basic Configuration: Configure the most important functions, jobs, and users for Root Cause Analysis and Service Delivery.

  • Managed Systems Configuration: Connect each managed system to SAP Solution Manager. It serves as a basis for several functions, such as Root Cause Analysis and SAP EarlyWatch Alert (which SAP strongly recommends), and for System and Application Monitoring.

2. Perform Optional Scenarios

Depending on your implementation, you can then configure the other scenarios, for example, Requirements Management, Project Management, Test Suite etc.

Process

  1. Open the Configuration application in the SAP Solution Manager launchpad or start transaction SOLMAN_SETUP.

  2. To open the guided procedure with the configuration steps, select a scenario, . Each step contains a help tray, a list of one or more activities, and a log at the bottom.

In some steps, you can switch between standard mode and advanced mode. Some features are only available in advanced mode.

On-Screen Help: In each scenario and setup step, there is a help text in a collapsible help tray at the top of the working area. You can export all help texts of a scenario by choosing Export to HTML in the last step of each scenario.

  3. Perform the activities.

Activities can be automatic or manual. For automatic activities, you select the activities you want to perform and the system executes the configuration (without interaction). For manual activities, you perform the configuration yourself according to the documentation provided.

An activity can be optional or mandatory, which affects the status calculation. For more information, see Calculation of the Configuration Status below.

On-Screen Help: For manual and automatic activities, there is documentation in the Documentation column.

When you install an upgrade or import a service package, the system automatically determines which parts of the installation have to be reconfigured. If an activity needs to be performed again, the Updates Needed check box is selected.

  4. Navigate through all steps of a scenario and perform the activities.

  5. The Complete step of each scenario provides an overview of the activities performed in the configuration scenario. The user chooses Finish to save the settings and close the scenario.

Calculation of the Configuration Status
  • The status of steps and substeps is displayed by icons in the roadmap. It is calculated based on the activities belonging to the step.

The status of mandatory activities affects the status calculation of the step, whereas the status of optional activities does not.

Point to the icons to see descriptions.

In some cases, no status is displayed for a step, for example, if it is not relevant for the configuration.

A yellow status symbol with an exclamation point indicates that activities have to be repeated due to changes to the system. The affected activities are marked in the Updates Needed column.

  • The status of the activities is displayed by icons in the Status column.

Point to icons to see descriptions.

Red errors are critical and must be resolved. See the logs for details.
