Procedure documentationCopying Test Plans

To reuse test plans, you can copy one or more of them, and specify to which extend the copy should be done, for example with or without the test packages. Test sequences are automatically included in copy of test plans.

If you copy a test plan, all the information from the source test plan will be copied to the new test plan (attributes and test case selection). You can change some attributes, for the target test plan:

  • You have to define a new, unique test plan ID.

  • The test plan description is reused from the source test plan, but you can change it.

You can define the following other attributes once, for all target test plans. If you do not, the values from source test plan are reused.

  • Responsible person

  • Planned start date

  • Planned end date

  • Test set

  • Test classification

  • Release status schema

For the target test plans, the release status value will automatically be set to the initial status that was defined for the release status schema.

  • Workflow

In addition, you can extend the scope of the copy, and include the following information:

  • Test plan attachments: New documents are created by copying the source test plan attachments.

  • Test packages: The copy will automatically create test packages for the target test plan. If a planned start and end date were defined, they will also be used for the test packages.

  • If test packages are copied, you can rename the target test packages and change their descriptions.

You can also copy the assigned testers and the attachments.

  • If the tester assignment are copied, you can also copy the defects. By default, only open defects are copied, which correspond to an active process type for test management. You can change this default, by selecting the process types and status, that are relevant for the copy.

When you copy test plans, the logon language will be used as the original language for the copy

Procedure

  1. In the Test Plan Management application, select the test plans to be copied.

  2. Choose Start of the navigation path Test Plan Next navigation step Copy End of the navigation path.

You go to the Mass Test Plan Copy view.

  3. Under Copy Parameters, set the checkmarks to determine what should be considered for the copy.

  4. You can use the Test Plan ID Suffix From field and the Test Plan ID Suffix To field to automatically fill the Target Test Plan ID column. The system will search for the values in the source test plan IDs (last characters only) and will replace them, to generate the new target test plan ID. Enter the relevant values in the Suffix fields and choose Apply.

  5. Choose Copy.

Confirm the question in the dialog box to start the copy. You can no longer edit the attributes.
