You use SAP Solution Manager Configuration to configure SAP Solution Manager immediately after installation, following an upgrade, or after importing Support Packages. The system leads you through the process using guided procedures, and provides a constant overview of the progress of your configuration.

For assistance, you can use the help texts that are available for scenarios, steps, and activities. In addition, you can export all help texts of a scenario by choosing the Export to HTML button in the last step of each scenario.

Implementation Considerations

Before you can use SAP Solution Manager Configuration, the following prerequisites must be met:

  • SAP Solution Manager and the license key are installed.

  • The Transport Management System (TMS) is configured.

  • You have started the load generator (transaction SGEN) for the following components to increase the performance of your systems during configuration:

    • ST

    • SAP_BASIS

    • SAP_ABA

  • You have a dialog user authorized for SAP Solution Manager Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP).

Features

SAP Solution Manager Configuration comprises mandatory and optional scenarios.

The following scenarios are required:

  • Mandatory Configuration: Configure the settings that apply to SAP Solution Manager in general and that are used for several scenarios.

    • System Preparation: Configure prerequisites for configuring SAP Solution Manager.

    • Infrastructure Preparation: Configure the SAP Solution Manager landscape and landscape components.

    • Basic Configuration: Configure the most important functions, jobs, and users for Root Cause Analysis and Service Delivery.

  • Managed Systems Configuration (basis for several functions, such as Root Cause Analysis and EarlyWatch Alert, which are strongly recommended by SAP, or for System and Application Monitoring): Connect your managed systems to SAP Solution Manager. You have to perform this scenario separately for each managed system.

Depending on your implementation, you configure, for example, the following scenarios:

  • IT Infrastructure Management: Configure the recording of information about IT components such as printers, servers, or routers.

  • Requirements Management: Configure change processes for the software used throughout your business

  • Project Management: Configure your system for integration of SAP Portfolio and Project Management (SAP PPM)

  • Process Management: Configure Solution Documentation in SAP Solution Manager.

  • Custom Code Management: Configure the management of your custom code developments.

  • Test Management: Configure the system so that it shows which parts of a Business Process Hierarchy are affected by a change.

  • Change Control Management: Configure change control for your projects.

  • IT Service Management: Configure central message management and processing.

  • Application Operations

    • System Monitoring monitors the status of the managed systems.

    • User Experience Monitoring monitors hosts at various locations to simulate the availability and performance of business processes from an end-user perspective.

    • Integration Monitoring monitors the technical interface landscape.

    • HANA and BI Monitoring: BI Monitoring monitors process chains, queries, and templates, as well as Business Objects or Data Services background jobs.

    • Job Monitoring monitors ABAP jobs, BW process chains, Business Objects and Data Services.

    • Self-Monitoring monitors the status of SAP Solution Manager.

    • Service Availability Management: Configure the reporting of agreed service outage duration in SAP Solution Manager.

    • IT Infrastructure Monitoring: Configure the monitoring of your IT infrastructure, including printers, active network devices, and storage devices.

    • IT Task Management: Configure the scheduling of tasks.

    • EarlyWatch Alert Management: Configure your EarlyWatch Alert service.

  • Business Process Operations

    • Job Management: Configure the monitoring, documentation, and scheduling of background jobs.

    • Business Process Operations: Configure the monitoring of the systems and components that are relevant for core business processes.

  • SAP Engagement BI Data: Configure the data extraction for the SAP Enterprise Support/PSLE Report Self-Service.

  • Data Volume Management: Configure the monitoring of the data volume in your system landscape to enable you to reduce the size of databases and the amount of data.

  • Value Management Dashboard: Configure the infrastructure to measure key figures and monitor the overall operating costs of your systems.
