PI Monitoring
In an integration scenario, different software components interact with each other to transfer messages from one system to another. The components:
Transform the data into the required format
Route the messages according to the runtime context
Choose the right protocol to transfer the message, and technical connections to the managed systems
PI Monitoring checks the status of components, channels, and cross-system messages in an SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI) 7.0 and higher, domain, centrally. Centralized monitoring of SAP NetWeaver PI domain accelerates the problem solving process. This ensures the availability of SAP NetWeaver PI server and data exchange between systems.
PI Monitoring is integrated with System Monitoring, Notification Management, IT Service Management, Alert Inbox and local monitors.
The PI Monitoring application consists of four tab pages, as follows:
Overview: The Overview
tab consists of three sections.
Status overview: Status is displayed with the count of the worst case and color coding for Components, Channels, Messages and Related Mertics. You can navigate to the monitoring tab pages by clicking the individual status box.
Application overview: Status bars are displayed that show the count of different statuses, and the total count for Components
, Channels
, Messages
, and Related Metrics
. Clicking on the individual status bar goes to the monitoring tab page.
Alert Ticker: You can view the number of alerts raised for the domains, and the details of the alert. Clicking on the alert opens the Alert Inbox
in a separate window. The top five recently occurred alerts are shown in the Alert Ticker
, that has red or yellow rating.
Components: The Component
tab page contains the following features:
In the status bar, you can view the total number of components in the selected domain, and the status icon, number of components in each status, and the number of alerts.
The tabular view shows the status of all components for the selected PI domain. You can select the column to be displayed, by selecting the options in Personalization
.
You can manually trigger ping for a selected PI component, to check its availability.
You can manually trigger a self-test for a selected PI component.
You can sort, filter, and group the components by availability, self-test, or related metrics.
You can view the data collection details by clicking on the status at the top of the Channel
table with status & timestamp , component, monitor type and domain details.
You can navigate to the Alert Inbox by clicking on Alert Count.
You can navigate to the system monitoring by clicking on a technical system in the details view.
Channels: The Channels
tab page contains the following:
A set of channel management actions: START, STOP, FORCE START, FORCE STOP, and PING channels.
START and STOP work for all channels, and can be executed on a set of channels at the same time. Channel control data must be Web service or external.
FORCE START and FORCE STOP work for all channels, and can be executed on a set of channels at the same time.
PING works for single channels, and for channels of type FILE, JDBC, SOAP, MAIL, RFC, and all channel statuses except for Stopped
and Not Administered
.
You can view details of the selected communication channel of the selected PI domain, such as Channel state (the state of a channel, i.e. whether it is running or in error), Adapter Engine, Activation State (the activation state of a channel, i.e. whether it has started or stopped), Component, Cluster node. You can also view the processing logs and ping details. You can select the column to be displayed, by selecting the options in Personalization
.
You can view the channel extractor details with status and timestamp, component, and domain details.
Messages: The Messages
tab page contains the following features:
In the status bar, you can view the total number of messages in the selected domain, and the status and individual number of messages of each status. The color codes are:
Red – Error
Yellow - Scheduled
Blue – Forwarded
Grey – Cancelled
Green - Successful
The tabular view shows the tree structure, and the number of errors; scheduled, forwarded, cancelled, and successful messages.
You can view the data collection detail of the last refreshed information.
You can select a timeframe during which you want to monitor the messages.
You can restart or cancel messages in scheduled and error status.
Click on any row or tree node to see the following:
Scenario details, such as Time frame
, Sender Interface
, and Receiver Interface.
Status locations and details, such as PI Component
and Status Group
.
Graphic form of the messages in either bar chart or trend chart format. The graphs are projected for messages for either the last 7 days or last 24 hours.
Incident and notifications: You can create incidents for support, or send an e-mail or text message to system users, business partners or external recipients.
Navigate to local monitor: You can navigate to the local monitor with the context, from Components
, Channels
and Messages
tab pages.
Technical Scenario and Auto-refresh: You can select a single PI domain or multiple PI domains to monitor. You can set auto-refresh, and the details will be refreshed at the specified interval. You can also pause and restart the refresh.
