Procedure documentationExecuting Manual Test Cases

When executing manual test cases, you can do the following

  • Assign a status so that the test cases can be further processed.

  • Measure the current effort

  • Report a defect and enter information on how to reproduce errors, for example, the steps that lead to a dump.

Prerequisites

The test engineer has assigned a test package to your user.

Procedure

  1. In the Tester Worklist view of the Test Management work center, select a test package.

The test cases that are assigned to the test package are displayed in the second table.

  2. Select a manual test case. To manual test cases, a Test Document icon is assigned in the Type column.

  3. Choose Run. The application for running manual test cases opens so that you can do the test and update the status.

  4. Choose Display Test Case to open the test document.

  5. If an executable is assigned to the test case, a dropdown selection allows you to select how to handle TBOM trace:

    • Choose Create and you get a popup to run the execution with TBOM.

    • Choose Do not create to run the executable directly, without starting TBOM trace.

(To enable the dropdown selection, you have requested the TBOM trace in SAP Easy Access, under Start of the navigation path System Next navigation step User Profile Next navigation step Own Data End of the navigation path. On the Parameters tab, enter the parameter AGS_BPCA_TB_FR_TWKL. Enter the value X to set the selection by default to Create, leave it empty to set it to Do not create by default.)

Under Test Case, the main attributes of the test case are displayed (description, priority, owner).

Under Executables, you see the executables that are assigned to the test case, together with information such as the type, logical component group, and target system. You can click the executable ID to start the executable directly in the target system.

Under Progress, you see the status. You can change the status, test effort, comment, and set the restrictions flags.

  6. To start the measurement of the execution effort of the test case, choose Start Execution.

  7. To start the measurement of the effort for the execution of the current test case, choose Start Execution. This button is only active, if a test object is assigned to the test case.

When you have executed the test case, choose Stop Execution.

  8. After having executed the test case, choose Stop Execution.

The test effort is displayed, you can change it if required.

  9. Select the appropriate test status. The following values are predefined by SAP:

    Situation

    Status

    Action

You have not yet performed a test.

    Untested

    -

A test has been temporarily interrupted.

    Being Processed

    -

    Test performed successfully.

    OK

    -

Errors found which slightly impair the use of the software (for example, ergonomic weaknesses, poor user guidance).

    OK with Reservations

To enter an explanation, create a test note or a test result. Create a defect to have the issue solved by test development.

Program errors or serious faults found.

    Errors: Retest Required

To enter an explanation, create a test note or a test result. Create a defect to have the issue solved by test development.

At retest, the original error has been removed and no new errors have arisen.

    Retest OK

To enter an explanation, create a test note or a test result. Create a defect to have the issue solved by test development.

    Note Note

Which statuses are possible depends on how your system is configured. If you are unsure about the meaning of a status, ask your system administrator.

You can define the statuses in the Test Management work center, under Start of the navigation path Administration Next navigation step Test Management with SAP Next navigation step Test Management Preparation Next navigation step Test Case Status End of the navigation path.

    End of the note.
  10. Select the Test Ended field, if the test execution was successful and if the field is not selected automatically.

    Note Note

Whether or not the Test Ended field is selected automatically depends on how your system is configured.

    For more information, see Administration.

    End of the note.
  11. Enter the test effort.

  12. Under Restrictions, define which kind of object was the subject of the test case. If the execution of the test was restricted, for example, to checking the functions only, but not the documentation, select the Functions field.

  13. Under Assign Defects, you can create a defect, assign an existing defect, or unassign it.

  14. To add information, you can do the following:

    • Add a test note with text information. You can create a note from the test document, template, or by upload. You can edit existing notes.

    • To add a message, for example to describe an error, on the Messages tab on the right side of the screen, choose Create.

    • Add test results. In contrast to test notes, test results are tester-specific and you can create more than one for a test case.

  15. Save and close the window.

Note Note

If you select an executable in the Tester Worklist, the application will look a bit different: There is no Test Case area and no Display Test Case button. Under Executables you only see the executable that you are currently.

In the application for running manual test, you have additional areas:

  • Test Package Attachment:attached documents

  • Assigned Testers: testers assigned to the same test case

  • General Info: administrative details on test plan and test package

End of the note.

Result

You have documented the result of your test case. The test organizer has an overview of the status of all test cases in your test package.
