Component documentationInteractive Reporting

Interactive reporting displays the development of the most important metrics of your managed objects, centrally, to identify potential problems early, and give an overview of the load, availability and performance of these objects. You can display interactive reports for the following object types:

The metrics are transferred to a Business Warehouse using the new Monitoring & Alerting Infrastructure; the most important metrics have been selected for interactive reporting, and reports have been created for these that provide you with a quick and comprehensive overview of the status of your managed objects. There are reports for the following topic areas:

  • Availability

  • Performance

  • Exceptions

  • Capacity

  • Usage

Interactive reporting therefore simplifies the following aspects of your central monitoring:

  • You have a sumamrized overview of status, performance and availability, both for individual objects, such as your managed systems, and for all selected objects in your own overview display.

  • Only the most important metrics are displayed for your managed objects. This means that you obtain an overview of the status of the monitored systems, scenarios, hosts, or databases more quickly.

  • The display of the metrics in the different reports is optimized for the importance and requirements with regard to the data in question; all relevant data is therefore displayed in an identical, generically-structured report in each case.

  • Displaying the development over time of the most important metrics centrally, gives you a second basis, after threshold values, to judge the current status. It can also indicate possible future developments.

  • You can use interactive reporting to determine meaningful threshold values for the relevant metrics.

  • You can use the relevant metrics to montior the capacity of your systems, hosts, or databases and to obtain the necessary information about when you need to make adjustments.

  • By including the current values in interactive reporting, you can always monitor the current status or compliance with defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

All values are saved in the Business Warehouse (BW) system that is associated with the SAP Solution Manager. This BW is also used for all other reporting applications.

The reports contain various periods, from the current day to the previous year, so you can see both the current, and the long-term development of the monitored metrics. The values for each period are displayed in the appropriate level of detail.

The configuration is performed automatically in the SAP Solution Manager Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP).It ensures that all values which you can display in interactive reporting can be displayed in the required resolution. Older data is automatically reorganized in less detail, and eventually deleted, to restrict the amount of storage required in the BW for the data.

Note Note

You can subsequently adjust the configuration settings, for example which data is to be retained for how long in which systems, in the SAP Solution Manager Administration work center, under Start of the navigation path Infrastructure Next navigation step BW Reports End of the navigation path.

End of the note.

In addition to the standard reports delivered by SAP, you can also integrate your own reports into interactive reporting, so that you can determine yourself which data is displayed, and how (seeCreating Your Own Queries for Interactive Reporting).

The metric monitor is also available to centrally display the development over time of monitoring data from your managed systems. You can specify in the setup, which metrics to display in the metric monitor. It therefore complements interactive reporting, in which you can display the development over time of the metrics that SAP has identified as particularly important. In the metric monitor, you can also show trend lines for the expected development of the metric in the future.

Integration

Interactive Reporting is part of the Technical Monitoring work center in the Solution Manager.
