Function documentationIntegration of SAP Portfolio and Project Management (PPM)

The integration of SAP Solution Manager projects and SAP Portfolio and Project Management (PPM) projects allows you to plan and manage projects in an IT environment, using SAP Solution Manager functionality.

You can enrich your SAP Solution Manager projects with the project management capabilities of PPM, including detailed planning and structuring of your project, and resource management. Then you can hand over your plans to realization, using the integrated PPM and Change Request Management. With time and status feedback you can monitor the progress and resource consumption of your project.

The project management functions in PPM manage, for example, project time, resources and status. SAP Solution Manager projects are linked to the PPM projects for technical operations. Requests for change in Change Request Management are also integrated with tasks in PPM projects.

You can use the project management capabilities in PPM projects to manage SAP Solution Manager projects. When assigned, the PPM project is the leading project management tool, and replaces some SAP Solution Manager project management functions. Data entered in a PPM project is mapped and transferred to an SAP Solution Manager project for which the administration data entry is then disabled, to guarantee data consistency.

The following figure shows an overview of this integration:

Prerequisites

You are familiar with the following functions:

Customizing
  • General Customizing of PPM and Change Request Management

  • The mapping between SAP Solution Manager projects, PPM projects, and requests for change, can be specified in the customizing activities. All relevant activities for SAP Solution Manager projects are assigned to one node in the SAP Solution Manager Implementation Guide:

    • Start of the navigation path SAP Solution Manager Next navigation step Capabilities (Optional) Next navigation step Implementation/Upgrade Next navigation step Integration of Solution Documentation with PPM Projects and Change Request Management End of the navigation path

    • or under

Start of the navigation path SAP Solution Manager Next navigation step Capabilities (Optional) Next navigation step Change Control Management Next navigation step Integration of Solution Documentation with PPM Projects and Change Request Management End of the navigation path

It contains the following customizing activities:

    • Basic Integration Information and Configuration Prerequisites

    • Allow Connection of PPM Project Types with Solution Documentation

    • Map Transaction Types onto Task Types

    • Map Task Status onto Transaction Status

    • Restrict Transaction Assignment to Specified Status Values

    • Map Object Types onto Roadmap Node Types

Authorization

You only can see the specific data of PPM in the SAP Solution Manager transactions if you are authorized to display PPM projects.

Features

The following scenarios are supported:

  • Project assignment

You can assign a PPM project to an SAP Solution Manager project.

  • Implementation scenario

You can create a request for change out of an PPM task, to start the realization of this task. You use this scenario if you plan a new function, before implementing it.

  • Maintenance scenario

You can create a PPM task out of a request for change. You use this scenario to manage smaller changes needed during productive use of a function, to include them in your project planning and monitoring.

Functional Restrictions

There are the following functional restrictions:

  • You cannot assign more than one SAP Solution Manager project to a PPM project.

You cannot assign more than one PPM project to an SAP Solution Manager project.

  • The relationship is always 1:1, so the assignment to a PPM project is not copied when you copy an SAP Solution Manager project.

When you transport an SAP Solution Manager project, the PPM project assignment is not transported.

  • You cannot assign more than one request for change to a PPM task.

  • You cannot assign more than one PPM task to a request for change.

  • No distributed deployment.

  • No integration of Quality Gate Management.

  • No Roadmap integration.

  • No migration of objects from the existing integration of Change Request Management and cProjects.

  • No functional relation and no assignment between the new integration and the existing integration of Change Request Management and cProjects.

  • Not every PPM project type can be assigned to every SAP Solution Manager project type. The supported combinations of project types are defined in the customizing.

  • A PPM project that is assigned to an SAP Solution Manager project cannot be archived.
