Function documentationThe System View of Self-Monitoring

So that the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI) can monitor your managed systems, the following prerequisites need to be fulfilled for managed systems:

  • The monitoring and configuration for these systems need to be correctly set up in SAP Solution Manager.

  • The associated agents and monitoring functions must be working correctly.

  • It must be possible to connect from the SAP Solution Manager system to the relevant managed system without any problems.

In the system view of the self-monitoring, this information is displayed grouped by technical systems. It is called by default when Self-Monitoring is called. There is also an overview view, in which information is displayed grouped by the technical components (see The Overview View of Self-Monitoring).

Activities

To display the system view of the self-monitoring, proceed as follows:

  1. Call the Administration of the SAP Solution Manager work center, and, in the navigation bar of the work center, choose the Self-Monitoring entry.

  2. By default, the Overview of the self-monitoring is displayed. To display the system view, first expand the Selection area above the overview, and choose the technical systems for which you want to display information.

  3. Choose the Self-Monitoring System View pushbutton. You can display this view embedded or in a new window.

  4. The most important status information is displayed for the selected systems using traffic light indicators, along with the current operating mode. Currently, the following status information is displayed for each technical system:

    • The Monitoring Status displays the configuration status of the technical monitoring.

    • The Agent Status displays the status of the agent of the Agent Framework that is responsible for the data retrieval for the relevant technical system.

    • The Plug-In Status displays the status of the extractors of the Extractor Framework, the central infrastructure of SAP Solution Manager for data retrieval and distribution.

To display additional detailed information about the self-monitoring of systems, select the desired systems.

  5. A list similar to the overview view is displayed below the system list for the selected systems. There is a tree for each selected systems, in which the above status information is displayed as subtres. You can expand subtrees to displayed the following detailed information:

    • The Monitoring Status subtree displays the status of the configuration of the various monitoring use cases. This status is set in the configuration of SAP Solution Manager (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP), when you configure the corresponding monitoring use case. Choose the Start Configuration of Solution Manager to go to the corresponding step of the system configuration.

    • The Agent Status subtree displays the availability and configuratoin status of the agents that transfer data for the respective system.

    • The Plug-In Status subtree displays the extractors that are responsible for the relevant system, grouped by the different types.

    Note Note

For each of these subtrees and metrics, you can display a description that provides information about the meaning of the metrics and, if there is an error status, about the meaning, consequences, analysis, and possible solutions of the error. To do this, in the Description column, choose the corresponding button; the description appears below the element.

    End of the note.
