Background documentationMonitoring Data Reporting Data Flow

This section describes in detail the data flow of the performance values which you can display in Reporting in the System Monitoring work center, in the scenarios IT Performance Reporting and Monitoring History.

Data is usually read from monitored systems by the extractor framework, from the SAP Solution Manager system, and written directly into the associated BI (which can also be in the SAP Solution Manager system).

Enhancement Package 1 for SAP Solution Manager 7.0 considerably changed the IT performance reporting architecture, as follows:

  • The performance data is no longer collected via a central monitoring system (CEN). So you no longer need to specify the monitored systems in a central CCMS.

  • The Central Performance History is no longer required because the extractor framework reads the performance values directly from the monitor segment of the monitored systems, and sends it to BI.

  • The extractor framework has its own infrastructure, to ensure that the data is up-to-date. The BI data collection infrastructure, e.g. process chains, is no longer required.

Note Note

You can also specify that data is still to be collected via CEN, in the IT performance reporting set-up. This can be useful if you already have a correctly-configured CEN, in which CCMS has the connection data to the monitored systems.

End of the note.

Exceptions

The only cases in which data is till required from removed systems, in a CCMS monitoring infrastructure are those in which the data is not in the local system. For IT performance reporting, this is the case in the following two areas:

  • Availability Data

The system and instance availability data is captured by the availability agent CCMSPING by communication with the message server of the monitored systems. CCMSPING writes these values into the monitor segment of the system at which the agent is registered.

  • Database KPIs

Database KPIs are saved directly in the system which you set-up. This data is also available locally, but the MTE classes have different names, depending on the database type, so that these values cannot be used for reporting across database types.

Note Note

If you have not yet configure CEN, configure both functions in the SAP Solution Manager system.
