Procedure documentationManaging KPI Definitions

A KPI definition is a collection of KPIs, properties, and their assignments. Each property can only be assigned to a KPI once.

The KPI and Metric Definition screen area provides an overview of active and inactive definitions. The Details of Definition screen area displays the corresponding KPIs, properties, and the assignment of properties to KPIs. You can upload and download definitions to and from Supportability Performance Platform.

For definitions you create yourself, you can create and delete KPIs, properties, and their assignments; you cannot delete data delivered by SAP. You can deactivate KPIs in the KPI Maintenance view.

When you have configured the KPI definition and properties, you save a KPI instance to use for performance analysis.

KPI Definition Details

You select a definition in the KPI and Metric Definition screen area. The Details of Definition screen area opens containing the following tab pages:

KPI

Displays information about the KPIs in the selected definition, for example:

  • Measurement indicates whether a KPI can be collected automatically (A) or whether you have to maintain the KPI value manually (M).

  • Provider indicates who created the KPI. If the KPI is based on the SAP template, the value is SAP; otherwise, the value is Customer.

  • Created At and Created On display when the KPI was added to the KPI definition.

Properties

Displays information about the properties, for example:

  • Maintainable indicates which properties you can create, change, and delete in the KPI Maintenance view.

  • Cardinality indicates how many times you can assign a property to a KPI. For example, you can assign just one Measurement Method (cardinality = 1).

  • Created At and Created On display when the attribute was added to the definition.

KPIs and Assigned Properties

Displays which properties are assigned to which KPIs and provides additional information, for example:

  • Search Help indicates whether search help is available for a KPI property assignment.

  • Search Help Object displays the name of the search help object.

  • Created At and Created On display when the assignment was added to the definition.

Prerequisites

A KPI definition is available.

Procedure

Uploading KPI Definitions

You can upload custom KPI definitions to Supportability Performance Platform (SPP) from an XML file.

You set up the first KPI definition as part of Customizing (see SAP Note 1835343Information published on SAP site). Any further KPI definitions you upload are initially assigned the Inactive status until you activate them manually. Only one definition can be active at any given time. If you upload a definition with the same name as an existing definition, the old definition is replaced.

Proceed as follows:

  1. In the KPI and Metric Definition screen area, choose Upload Definition.

The Select SPP definition (XML File) dialog box appears.

  2. Find and select the XML file and confirm your selection.

Downloading KPI Definitions

You can download KPI definitions from SPP as XML files.

Proceed as follows:

  1. In the KPI and Metric Definition screen area, choose Download Definition.

The Search for XML File dialog box appears.

  2. You can either overwrite an existing file or create a new file:

    • To overwrite an existing XML file, select the file and confirm your selection.

    • To create a new file, enter a new file name and confirm your selection.

The definition is saved to your system.

Creating KPI Instances

When you have configured the KPI definition and properties, you save a KPI instance to use for performance analysis.

Proceed as follows:

  1. In the KPI and Metric Definition screen area, choose Create Instance.

The Create Instance dialog box opens.

  2. In the Instance Identifier field, enter a name for the instance.

You can use field help to display a list of previously created instances and see which instance is currently active. To overwrite a previously created instance, select the instance and confirm your selection.

  3. Enter a description for the instance.

The instance is now active and is displayed in the KPI Maintenance view.
