Function documentation Customizing the Status and Tracking System  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You use this function to create or edit the basic elements with which the Status and Tracking System works. As a result of this, you adjust the Status and Tracking System to the conditions in your company.

SAP delivers predefined elements for some element types (for example, status values) that are integrated in the internal function flow. You create the required elements for other element types yourself since this requires knowledge of the specific conditions and responsibilities in your company.

Prerequisites

The planning area of the characteristics and key figures that you access in the Status and Tracking System must be a basic planning area. You cannot use multi-planning areas in the Status and Tracking System.

In order to assign a hierarchy to a subplan, you must have created a hierarchy on the desired characteristic in the SAP Business Information Warehouse.

Functions

You define the subplans you require (for example, “sales planning EMEA 2002”, “budget planning marketing 2002”) and the different planning sessions (for example, “requisition note (bottom-up)”, “resource distribution (top-down)”).

Subsequently, you assign the desired planning objects (planning area, hierarchy-bearing characteristic) and the subplans you defined to each other. The following applies for the relationship between planning areas and subplans:

·        A subplan is always assigned to exactly one planning area.

·        Several subplans can be assigned to one planning area.

These rules implement two general modeling principles for working with BW-BPS.

·        A planning area should always serve as the solution to a clearly distinguished business task as it is also described by a subplan.

·        The fact that a planning area can be referenced by several subplans takes the goal of plan integration into account. For example, within profit planning the sales plan figures gained also flow into the income statement planning. For this reason, it is suitable to combine both subplans at least partly in the same planning area.

The assignment of a hierarchy-bearing characteristic that contains the master data of the relevant organizational structure of your company is a central setting in the Customizing of the Status and Tracking System. As a result of this, you transfer the hierarchical structure of a part of your organizational structure (for example, by a hierarchy that is defined for the characteristic cost center) to the planning process within a subplan. This means the subplan is split by the assignment of a hierarchy into as many individual tasks as the hierarchy contains nodes.
