Navigation in the Directory Browser

On the left of the Directory Browser, there is a navigation bar in which you can select the desired managed object for which you want to display metrics, events, alerts, and templates used.

You have various selection options. You can specify them in the dropdown box Navigation per.

Monitoring Use Case
Specify selection options to display the managed objects of a technical monitoring topic. Select a Monitoring Use Case and an entry point. The entry point and the hierarchy of managed objects below it are shown in the navigation bar.

Note
There is a hierarchy of managed objects for each monitoring use case (which may only consist of a single level). The entry point is the top hierarchy level of these objects.

Managed Object Type
Select this option to display specified managed objects of an object type (e.g. technical system). Choose the object type in the drop-down list. You can specify the names or IDs of the managed objects to be displayed. Only the selected managed objects are displayed, not the hierarchy of objects below it.
Managed Object with Hierarchy
Select this option to display specified managed objects of an object type (e.g. technical system) with the object hierarchy below it. You have the selection options of Managed Object Type, and the object hierarchy (e.g instances, database and hosts of type Technical System) is displayed under the selected managed objects.

Select your option, enter any further optional names, type or ID of the managed objects to display, and choose Copy. The objects are displayed in the navigation bar Managed Objects. Double-click on a managed object to display its data.

Note Note

Once you have selected the desired managed object, you can hide the navigation bar at any time to have more space for displaying the data. To do so, choose the (Hide Navigation) button.

A managed object is an entity in your system or business process landscape; in technical monitoring it is also a container for metrics, events, and alerts. The following types of managed objects are displayed in the Directory Browser:

Object type	Description
Database	In technical monitoring, you can monitor both the databases of technical systems and standalone databases.
Host (Server)	The object type Host (Server) includes all hosts for which metrics are monitored in the context of technical monitoring.
Process Integration (PI/XI) Domain	A Process Integration (PI/XI) domain consists of different technical systems and the associated PI component, and is defined in the System Landscape Directory of the PI (see Component Monitor).
Script Robot	A Script is an entity of End User Experience Monitoring. A script contains a sequence of dialog steps within an EEM scenario; this can be part of a business process, for example. The scripts are created centrally and distributed across various Robots on which these scripts run.
Script on Robot	Instances of the object type Script on Robot contain the monitoring data that is specific to a script, that runs on a particular robot. A robot is a special instance of an SMD agent. In contrast to normal SMD agents, it is not installed directly in the managed systems, but instead in an end-user environment.
Script Step on Robot	A Script Step on Robot is part of a Script on Robot. It is the smallest unit to which a performance or availability value can be assigned. This means a step can be the execution of a dialog step, for example.
Technical Instance	A Technical Instance is part of a Technical System that runs on a physical host and forms an administrative unit. The technical instances are stored in the Landscape Management.
Technical Component	A Technical Component usually contains a particular function within a technical system and is part of the integration landscape of a PI domain. It is monitored in the context of PI monitoring (see Viewing the Status of Components).
Technical System	A Technical System is a complete, technical unit that is installed and administered as a whole. The technical systems are also stored in the LMDB.
Technical Scenario	A Technical Scenario combines one or more technical systems and, if appropriate, associated entities (such as the RFC connections in connection monitoring).
Connection	A Connection is an element from Connection Monitoring. A connection contains a name, a status, and the technical systems that are linked by this connection.
Output System Printer or Fax Active Network	These object types are used in IT Infrastructure Monitoring. Note This function is not available by default. To use it, you need to purchase the SAP Solution Manager Add-on for SAP IT Infrastructure Management, and activate it explicitly. For more information, see http://support.sap.com/solutionmanager. Interface Channel	Interface Channel Monitoring monitors the interfaces between business-critical systems in real time. An interface channel is a group of interfaces which you specify for a scenario.
