Function documentationUsing the Metric Monitor

The Metric Monitor displays the development over time of performance values from the managed systems.

The Metric monitor contains various periods, from the last few hours to the last year, so you can see both the current, and the long-term development of the performance values. The values for each period are displayed in the appropriate level of detail.

Integration

The metric monitor is part of the technical monitoring work center in the Solution Manager; the metric monitor is also available in the System Monitoring work center.

Prerequisites

You have set up interactive reporting in the setup of the Solution Manager (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP).

Activities

To call the Metric Monitor from the Technical Monitoring work center, proceed as follows:

  1. In the Technical Monitoring work center, choose Interactive Reporting.

  2. Choose the desired administered object for which you want to display the development over time of a metric. For more information, see Selecting Systems, Scenarios, Hosts, and Databases for Display.

Now choose the Metric Monitor button.

  3. The Metric Monitor appears in a separate subscreen. By default, the current month is used as the period; however, you can also select any other periods by making the desired selection in the Period dropdown list.

  4. You have the following options:

    • You can select the desired metric that you want to display in the Metric Monitoring of dropdown list. This list displays all metrics for which performance values are stored in the BW for the selected object (System, Host, or Database). Depending on the technical infrastructure used, a short description or the MTE Class of the relevant metric is displayed.

    • By default, the performance values for the selected metric are displayed without the corresponding threshold values. If you want to display the threshold values from green to yellow and from yellow to red, choose the corresponding button.

    • When you call the Metric Monitor, the entire selected period is displayed. You can, however, also restrict this period by using the horizontal slider below the graphic to set the desired period, or by selecting the desired period in the graphic with the mouse pointer. To display the entire selected period again, double-click the slider below the graphic.

    • In addition to the graphic, the values are also available as a table. To display the table, expand the relevant area.

    Note Note

Certain metrics of the new monitoring and alerting infrastructure, for which the measured value is not relevant for evaluation, but rather only the status, are also displayed appropriately in the metric monitor. In this case, a bar chart is displayed for each status (Red, Yellow, Green, and Gray; a gray status indicates that no measurement values are available for the relevant period) for the selected period. The bar chart shows the time distribution of this status.

    End of the note.
