The new unified Job Monitoring allows you to monitor all the business-critical background jobs, such as ABAP jobs, BW process chains, Data Services jobs, and Business Objects jobs, centrally. You monitor the jobs based on the data collected by monitoring objects that are set up from the following contexts:
Technical Monitoring - technical scenario
Job Scheduling Management - job documentation
Business Process Monitoring - Solutions
Use case
You can create a monitoring object in the Technical Monitoring work center, by creating a technical scenario that contains the technical systems to monitor.
You can create a monitoring object from an existing solution, in the Business Process Monitoring work center.
You can create a monitored object in the Job Management work center, and assign systems, logical components or solutions to monitor.
Note
The monitored objects that you create can be reused across all the three contexts.
The figure below explains the job configuration from all the three contexts, and monitoring them in the unified Job Monitoring application.
Unified Job Configuration and Monitoring
Entry Points- Technical Monitoring Scenarios, Business Process Solutions, Job Documentation
Supported Job Types - ABAP, BW PC, Data Service, Business Objects
Configuration
The table below shows the configuration possibilities for all job types:
Job Type | Job Identified | Schedule inherited (start time, frequency) | Add Jobs Directly | Data Collection mode | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Managed system | CPS | Managed system | CPS | |||
ABAP Jobs | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Pull, Push |
BW Process Chains | Yes | Header | No | No | No | Pull |
SAP Business Objects Jobs | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No | Pull, Push |
SAP Data Services | Yes | Header | No | No | No | Pull, Push |
Note
Every monitored object that you create for scenarios or solutions is stored in Job Documentation by default.
Based on the data collection, the Calculation engine checks for the threshold values and the resulting values. Alert is triggered to the Alert Inbox, and auto incidents and notifications are created.
The Job Monitoring application summarizes monitored objects and the ratings from live data collection that the system persists, with a fixed number of instances of a recurring job. The application also alerts the situation of the monitored objects, based on the threshold values. You can create manual incidents and notifications if the monitored object state needs to be notified to different levels of support.
Metrics that indicate the state of the monitored object in the monitoring application are:
Job status – Failed, Active, Cancelled, Released
Time metrics - Not-started-on-time, start delay, end time, duration, out of time window
Range metrics - records processed, data packages processed, rows read
Job log messages
Job log content
Others - Parallel processing and Job active
To analyze the status and performance of a monitored object over a period of time, the Job Monitoring application now includes reporting. Data for reporting comes from the BW store. You can check the trend chart of the alert history of the monitored object, which will help you to analyze the job and take business-critical decisions.
