Business Process Monitoring Work Centers
SAP Solution Manager provides two variants of Business Process Monitoring (BPMon) work centers. Both give a central point of access to all functions for supporting the operations of your business processes, including the relevant monitoring and reporting functions. The work centers differ in which Business Process Monitoring function they provide access to.
The Business Process Operations (new)
work center provides access to Business Process Monitoring based on the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI). This function also uses the data providers in ST-PI and ST-A/PI and will replace the classical Business Process Monitoring in the future. It provides the following benefits:
Handle alerts easier in a unified alert inbox
Integrate custom guided procedures with your monitoring objects, to support error handling procedures which have to be performed repeatedly.
Make use of improved capabilities such as reporting, self-monitoring, or notification mechanisms.
Perform job, interface, and performance monitoring easier in an infrastructure shared with technical monitoring
You can use the Business Process Monitoring (new) work center, if your managed systems have SAP Basis 7.0 or higher.
The Business Process Operations work center provides access to the classic Business Process Monitoring (based on CCMS). It provides alerting and notification functions using data providers in ST-PI and ST-A/PI on the managed system.
MAI-based Business Process Monitoring will replace classic Business Process Mointoring in the future. As of SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP 12, SAP does not further develop the classic Business Process Monitoring. Nevertheless, it still can be configured and monitoring configurations already activated can be continued to be used.
You can use MAI-based Business Process Monitoring if your managed systems have SAP Basis 7.0 or higher. If your managed systems have a basis release 6.40 or lower, you cannot use MAI-based BPMon on MAI and have to use classic BPMon.
You can migrate from the classic to MAI-based Business Process Monitoring automatically, using a report. For more information, see SAP Note 2010999
