You can integrate content from BI into the portal using various tools. Depending on the type of integration, you create objects with various display types in the portal.

You have a variety of options for displaying BI objects in the portal. The various display types are summarized in the following table.

BEx Web Application as an iView

Web-based BI application that is displayed as an iView in the portal (BEx Web Analyzer for example).

BEx Web applications are Web templates executed on the Web that are created using BEx Web Application Designer.

BEx Web Application as a Document in Knowledge Management

Document stored in a KM folder with historical data for a Web-based BI application.

BEx Web Application as an Online Link in Knowledge Management

Link to a Web-based BI application with current data in a KM folder.

The BI Metadata Repository Manager is required to display the data.

BEx Analyzer Workbook as an iView

Microsoft Excel workbook with one or more embedded queries that are displayed in a separate browser window as an iView in the portal.

BEx Analyzer Workbook as a Document in KM

Microsoft Excel workbook with one or more embedded queries that is stored as a document with historical data in a KM folder.

BEx Query as iView

Query displayed as a Web-based BI application in a standard view as an iView in the portal. This is a special type of BEx Web application.

BEx Query as Online Link in Knowledge Management

Link to a query with current data that is displayed in a standard view. The link is stored in a KM folder.

The BI Metadata Repository Manager is required to display the data.

BEx Query as a Document in Knowledge Management

Document with historical data for a query that is displayed in a standard view. The link is stored in a KM folder.

Enterprise Report as an iView

Formatted report, also called an enterprise report, that is displayed in the portal as an iView. Enterprise reports are a special form of Web applications that is optimized for presentation and for printing.

Enterprise Report as a Document in Knowledge Management

Document stored in a KM folder containing the historical data of an enterprise report.

Enterprise Report as Online-Link in the Knowledge Management

Link to an enterprise report with current data stored in a KM folder.

Single BI Document in Knowledge Management as an iView

A single document generated in BI (such as documentation on metadata) that is displayed as an iView in the portal. The document or the link can either be made available in Knowledge Management by the BI Document Repository Manager or the BI Metadata Repository Manager, or can be a precalculated BEx Web application in Knowledge Management.

Multiple BI Documents in Knowledge Management as an iView

Multiple documents or links from a folder in Knowledge Management are displayed with a KM Navigation iView. The documents or links in Knowledge Management can originate from the BI system and other sources.

The layout of a KM Navigation iView can be adapted using layout sets.

Web Interface as an iView

Web-enabled planning application of BW-BPS that is displayed as an iView in the portal.

Visualization as iView

Web application (dashboard for example) with data from the BI system. Is created using SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius Enterprise. In the portal, visualizations are displayed as iViews.

BI Component

Various applications and tools from the BI system, such as Data Warehousing Workbench, BEx Query Designer, BEx Web Application Designer or BEx Analyzer.

 

Using BEx Broadcaster or BEx broadcasting wizard, you can distribute content from BI to the portal. More information: Information Broadcasting.

You can also integrate content from BI into the portal by using SAP Role Upload, KM Content, and the Portal Content Studio. More information: Creating Content from BI for the Portal.

BEx Tools

With the BEx tools BEx Query Designer, BEx Web Application Designer and BEx Report Designer, you can publish the objects thus generated (queries, Web applications and enterprise reports) as iViews in the Portal Content Directory (PCD).

BEx Broadcaster and Broadcasting Wizard

Tool and wizard for precalculating and distributing queries, query views, reports, Web templates, and workbooks. BEx Broadcaster provides more extensive options for precalculation and distribution than the BEx Broadcasting Wizard.

With BEx Broadcaster and BEx Broadcasting Wizard, you can generate precalculated documents and online links and publish them to the portal.

Portal Content Studio

Central environment for generating and managing the portal content in the portal.

KM Content

Central environment for generating and managing documents and links in Knowledge Management.

SAP Role Upload

Tool for uploading role definitions and the associated objects from the back-end systems (such as the BI system) into the portal.

 

The following table provides an overview of which tool you use to create which objects. If an X is entered in the table for a combination, this method of displaying content from BI is possible with the designated tool.
