 Create Synchronization Group

Use

A synchronization group contains a set of customizing objects which you want to compare later in two systems with the Customizing Scout, or synchronize in a system landscape with the Customizing Distribution.

Prerequisites

You have satisfied all the Customizing Distribution prerequisites . You are in the Customizing Distribution setup .

Procedure

Create Synchronization Group
  1. Call the synchronization group editor with Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Synchronization Group Editor End of the navigation path .

You can also call the editor with Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step Customizing Next navigation step Distribution Next navigation step Synchronization Groups End of the navigation path in the SAP menu.

  2. Choose Create .

  3. Enter a technical name in your namespace, a source and target component, and a descriptive short text, in the dialog box.

    Note Note

When you create a synchronization group, assign it to the correct source and target components. The source system from which you want to distribute customizing must contain the software components which you specify under source component. The target systems into which you want to distribute customizing must also contain the software components which you specify under target component.

The source and target component possible entries help displays all existing software components in the system landscape.

    End of the note.
  4. Specify a source and target system in the dialog box.

The synchronization group editor accesses the Implementation Guides (IMGs) of these systems.

  5. If no existing synchronization objects flag is set in the dialog box, load these objects with the Load Object Lists pushbutton.

  6. If you want to restrict the object selection from the SAP Reference IMG to one project IMG, set the Project Selection from Project IMG flag and choose the customizing project with the same name from the list of SAP Solution Manager projects, if there is one, or specify the customizing project manually if there is no list.

  7. Choose Continue .

  8. Specify a package in the following dialog box, and choose Save .

The system displays the new synchronization group in the right-hand frame. You can now put objects in the synchronization group.

Insert customizing objects based on IMG activities
  1. Choose the synchronization group by double-click in the list in the left-hand frame.

  2. Go to edit mode for the synchronization group.

  3. Click on the synchronization group with the right-hand mouse key.

  4. Choose Insert Objects from the Target IMG or Insert Objects from the Source IMG , in the context menu. If you selected the Project Selection from the Project IMG flag when you created the synchronization group, the selection of IMG activities is restricted to the project IMG.

  5. If a logon screen appears, enter your user name and password for the source or target system.

The system displays the source or target system IMG in a dialog box.

  6. Mark one or more IMG activities and choose Continue .

The system checks whether the IMG activities have synchronization objects, and if so replaces simple customizing objects with synchronization objects.

  7. Confirm the system message that customizing objects have been replaced by synchronization objects.

The system checks whether the customizing objects are in the Implementation Guides of the source and target systems, and sends a message if not

Customizing objects which do not satisfy the check are displayed in a dialog box, and not put in the synchronization group.

  8. Choose Continue .

  9. Save your entries.

Search for and insert customizing objects by technical name
  1. Choose the synchronization group by double-click in the list in the left-hand frame.

  2. Go to edit mode for the synchronization group.

  3. Click on the synchronization group with the right-hand mouse key.

  4. Choose Insert Customizing Object from Target , in the context menu.

  6. To search for more customizing objects, click on Restrictions with the right-hand mouse key, and search. You can also searchfor customer objects, if they are in the table SOBJ

  7. Choose Continue .

The system checks whether the customizing objects are in the Implementation Guides of the source and target systems, and sends a message if not

Customizing objects which do not satisfy the check are displayed in a dialog box, and not put in the synchronization group.

  8. Choose Continue .

  9. Save your entries.

Put synchronization objects in a synchronization group

    Note Note

Choose Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Display Synchronization Objects End of the navigation path for further details about displaying synchronization objects .

    End of the note.

Result

The system lists all objects which you have put in the synchronization group, in the right-hand frame. The Type column indicates whether it is a synchronization object predefined by SAP, with table and field name mapping information, or a simple customizing object. The views belonging to view clusters, and the tables belonging to customizing objects of type T or L, are displayed in the list. The IMG activity short text is displayed in the Description column.

You can now:

  • Insert existing synchronization groups as subgroups in your synchronization group with Drag & Drop

  • change the structure of your synchronization group by moving objects with Drag & Drop.

    Caution Caution

Changes to a synchronization group affect all uses of it.

    End of the caution.
  • Document the synchronization group with Start of the navigation path Synchronization Group Next navigation step Change Documentation End of the navigation path

  • Specify Filter conditions for the synchronization group

    Note Note

You can also later identify and delete customizing objects which are not in the source and target system, from the synchronization group, with Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Check End of the navigation path . You can also delete all customizing objects which are not for Customizing Distribution, from a synchronization group, with Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Delete Non BC Set-Compatible Objects End of the navigation path .

    End of the note.
