You configure jobs (ABAP jobs, BW Process chains, Data Services jobs, and Business Objects jobs) as monitored objects, so that you can monitor them. You configure different job types in the respective setup steps of Job Monitoring. The procedure explained below is similar for all types of monitored objects that you want to monitor.
In the Add Jobs
drop down list, select one of the following options:
From Managed System
– jobs that are configured on a managed system
Directly
– jobs that are not yet scheduled on the managed system, but you know the job names and the user who executes the job.
From External Scheduler
– jobs that are scheduled in an external scheduler such as CPS. On selecting this option, Solution Manager establishes a connection with the CPS destination, to access jobs that are scheduled.
Note
For all the job types, planned start time and periodicity is taken from the managed system.
If you have selected From Managed System
option, the corresponding system and client appears in the Add Jobs
pop-up, from where you select the jobs as follows:
In the Add Job(s)
pop-up, choose Get Jobs from ABAP System
, to fetch the jobs that match the filter criteria.
Note
You can add a Simple Job Filter Criteria
and search for the jobs that you want to monitor.
Example
Example for Filter Search: Job Name – FI* and search finds 10 jobs. According to the search result, you can choose the exact jobs for monitoring by choosing Add Selected Jobs
, or you can retain the selection criteria with a pattern selection, for example, FI*, and treat it as a Monitoring Object.
Choose Add filter criteria as monitored object
or Add selected jobs as monitored object
according to your requirements.
Choose Save

If you have selected Directly
, proceed as follows:
In the Monitored Objects
table, enter the monitored object name, status, etc. and add all mandatory parameters .
Choose Save
.
If you have selected the option From External Scheduler
, proceed as follows:
In the Add Job(s)
pop-up, enter the CPS Destination
, if the destination is not populated by default.
Choose Find
to fetch jobs that match the filter criteria in the Job Selection
area
Choose Add filter criteria as monitored object
or Add selected jobs as monitored object
, according to your requirements.
Select the checkbox Collect data from External Scheduler
, to enable the data collector to collect monitored objects data from the CPS.
Choose Save
.
Use this option to retrieve job information from the corresponding managed system, according to the filter criteria. The job identification check shows all jobs that match, in the corresponding system.
Specify the execution time of the data collection.
Note
Data collection puts load on the monitored system. Consider how often data collection (monitoring, for example) is meaningful. For technical monitors or critical jobs, a frequency of 5 minutes is reasonable, but for backlog key figures, even weekly might be sufficient.
The scheduling options depend on the monitoring object.
Simple schedule: You define on which weekdays, with which frequency and in which time window (start time and end time), the monitoring is to take place
Extended schedule: You define on which work days the monitoring is to take place. You can refer to a factory calendar (on the SAP Solution Manager system or on the monitored system).
Fiscal Year Variant: You define a custom period, during which monitoring is to take place.
Example: Start monitoring on the first work day of every March and end on the sixth work day of every March.
The Job Monitoring collectors return alert messages and job log messages in the language of the RFC user. It may not be readable by specific users who have language preferences. So, you can now set the language in which you want to read the alert and log messages in the monitoring application, by selecting the desired language.
You created the monitored objects for monitoring. Save them and proceed to configure the Alerts, Incidents and Notifications.
