Procedure documentation Setting Up Broadcasting in Federated Portal Networks  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

Organizations can implement a federated portal network to share content simultaneously between portals.

A federated portal network allows organizations with distributed portal installations, both SAP and non-SAP, to provide a single portal access point for each user. This allows the users to access information, services, and applications that are distributed in portals throughout the entire organizational network. This implementation allows existing content and configurations to be used, and minimizes the administration effort required.

In a federated portal network, multiple portals are linked to one another, which enables them to share content. A portal that exposes its content for consumption by other portals in the network is called the producer portal. A portal that accesses and uses content provided by other portals in the network is called a consumer portal. At runtime, iViews that are running in a producer portal are remotely displayed in the consumer portal.

There are various options in KM for broadcasting BI information in federated portal networks.

 Caution

These options only support the storage of documents or online links in KM folders; they do not support storage as personal documents (My Portfolio view) or in collaboration rooms.

Prerequisites

SAP NetWeaver 7.0 must be installed in both the consumer portal and the producer portal.

Procedure

Setting Up Broadcasting Using WebDAV Repository Managers

Set up information broadcasting using WebDAV repository managers. You can choose whether to store the documents in the consumer portal or in the producer portal.

We recommend that you use this option.

Setting Up Broadcasting Using KM Navigation iViews or CM Repository Managers

Alongside the options for setting up information broadcasting using WebDAV repository managers, you have the following additional options for integrating and calling the documents:

Information broadcasting using KM navigation iViews

Information broadcasting using CM repository managers

Information broadcasting using the Information and Content Exchange protocol (ICE)

Result

You have set up the broadcasting of BI information within a federated portal network. In the BEx Broadcaster, when broadcasting the documents to Any Folder, users can therefore select the folders you set up (in the input help under CM Repository View) as broadcasting targets.
