Creating VirtualProviders Based on 3.x
InfoSources
For compatibility reasons, a VirtualProvider that is based on a data transfer process with direct access can also be connected to an SAP source system using a 3.x InfoSource.
● Direct access must be allowed for the DataSource (in DataSource maintenance).
● This source system DataSource is assigned to the InfoSource.
● You have defined and activated the transfer rules for this combination. Note the special features with transfer routines:
○ You need to explicitly select the fields of the transfer structure that you want to use in the routine. See Creating Transfer Routines.
○ If you have created a transfer routine, you can create an inversion routine for performance optimization.
○ If you use a formula, the selections in this field cannot be transferred. We recommend that you use a transfer routine instead.

1. In the Data Warehousing Workbench under Modeling, choose the InfoProvider tree.
2. In the context menu, choose Create VirtualProvider.
3. As the type, choose VirtualProvider based on the data transfer process and enter your 3.x InfoSource.
4. You can set an indicator to specify whether a unique source system is assigned to the VirtualProvider. Otherwise you must select the source system in the query. In this case, characteristic (0LOGSYS) is added to the VirtualProvider definition.
See also Characteristic Compounding with Source System ID.
5. On the next screen you check the defined VirtualProvider and modify it, if necessary, before activation.
6. Activate direct access. From the context menu of the VirtualProvider, select Activate Direct Access.
7.
Choose the
Source Systems tab page for 3.x InfoSource. Select the source system
and choose
Save Assignments.

The source system assignments are local to the system and are not transported.
The VirtualProvider can be used in reporting in the same way as any other InfoProvider.
