Changing Variable Values
You use this function to change values for all variables associated with queries in your workbook. When you execute the queries, the results are displayed for the selected variables.
You can also personalize variables. You can personalize single variables and all variables in a query executed in the BEx Analyzer. By personalizing the variables, you assign values to them that are used until you reset the personalization. Personalization means that you do not have to repeatedly manually configure your personal variable settings.
For more information, see Personalizing Variables.
You can save a variant for a query after you have filled the variable with values according to your requirements. A query variant is a query for which variable values have already been selected. When you next open the workbook, you can call the variant. You can create multiple variants so that you can choose different variable values. However, only one variant can be active at any one time.
For more information, see Saving Query Variants.

If your workbook contains multiple queries, when you update a workbook for the first time, all the queries that have been inserted into it are processed. You must replace all variables saved in any of the queries with concrete values at that time. These values are then saved in a session on the server. When a variable value is changed, the status has to be created again. This can be time-consuming. Therefore, variables are not automatically processed when you navigate in a query; you must call this function to change them.
You are using a query that contains at least one input-ready variable.
...
1. Insert a query for which variables are saved into a workbook.
2. Open the dialog box for selecting variable values. You have the following options:
○ If you open a query or a workbook, the Select Values for Variables dialog box is displayed automatically.
○ If you have already executed a query in a workbook, choose Change Variable Values in the analysis toolbar or BEx Analyzer → Change Variable Values.
3. Select values for the variables that are saved in the query.
If you use input help to select variables, select the required variable value from the list of available values. Use the Ctrl key to select several values from the list at the same time. You can also enter the values manually.
Note the following rules for syntax when entering values directly (sample values: prod1-prod5):
○ Entering a single value: prod1
○ Entering a value range: prod1-prod3
○ Excluding a single value: prod1
○ Entering several single values (separator is a semicolon without a connecting space): prod2;prod4;prod5
○ Entering values that are greater than/equal to or less than/equal to a threshold value
greater than: >prod2
greater than or equal to: >=prod3
less than: <prod4
less than or equal to: >=prod3
4. You can optionally upload additional data for the selected variable and use it in the executed query.
a. In the input help dialog, choose More >> to display the area to the right where the selection you last made is displayed.
b. If you chose a variable value from the list of available values, add this to the Selection pane by choosing the arrow button.
c. Select the variable value in the Selection pane, call the context menu, and choose Upload Selections.
d. In the Explorer, choose the required file: The file is uploaded. Note the following:
■ You can also upload a file for multiple variables simultaneously. If you have added multiple variable values to Selection, use the Ctrl key to select all of them at the same time and repeat the procedure as described to upload the files.
■ You can also download data that you previously uploaded for variables and save it locally. Proceed as described and in the context menu for the selected variable value, choose Download Selections.
For more information, see Selecting Characteristic Values and the section Uploading Data for Characteristic Values.
5. To check the selected variable values, choose Check.
If the values are correct, the dialog for the variable selection closes, and the query is executed using the changed variable values.

If your workbook contains more than one query, repeat this procedure for each query to change the relevant variables.
You have selected other values for the variables that belong to queries in your workbook and executed the query.
