This query is used for the Dashboard for Alert Management Reporting. This Alert Management dashboard displays metrics such as the number and distribution of alerts, support messages, and the processing times of alerts.

The dashboard contains a number of apps, including an app that displays the total of all validity periods for all alert groups during the selected time period, broken down by alert types and managed objects. An alert group contains the consecutive instances of an alert type on a managed object. The validity period of an alert group starts with the first occurrence of the alert and ends with a change in the status of the associated event (e.g. from red to green). This query supplies that app with values.
