Procedure

  1. Call Xcelsius 2008 on your PC.

  2. You have the option of inserting an Excel worksheet file into an Xcelsius 2008 file or importing Excel worksheets into the file.

  3. Because the "design first" principle applies when working in Xcelsius, you should start by linking UI components, such as tables and diagrams (charts), with cells or cell areas of the worksheet.

  4. Once the design of the visualization is complete, use the Xcelsius Data Manager to create a connection to a BI system (connection type SAP NetWeaver BI Connection). After you have logged on to the BI system, the BEx Open dialog appears. Here you can choose the required query or query view.

    Recommendation Recommendation

You can link the different UI components of your visualization with different BI connections. The selected queries and/or query views must all originate from one single BI system.

    End of the recommendation.
  5. After you have created the connection to a BI system (and therefore to the BI server), you can configure this connection in the Data Manager. In the Data Manager, you can connect data from the dashboard table to the worksheet (or an area of the worksheet). Here you can set filters, connect query data to a cell area of the worksheet, preview the data and configure the data update.

  6. It is also possible to translate texts (that you have inserted in UI components and connected to worksheet cells/cell areas) as BI objects.

    1. To do this, choose Translation Settings in the SAP menu.

    2. Select the Activate Support for Translation checkbox.

    3. In the next step, configure the cell area that is assigned to the text. To do this, choose Add and then select use Area to select the required cell area.

Now the selected cells and text are translated as BI objects into the logon language of the user. For more information on the BI transport connection, see Translating Text for BI Objects.

  7. Choose Publish in the SAP menu. The BEx Save dialog appears. Here you can save the Xcelsius visualization on the connected BI system or export the visualization to a different BI system. Saving the visualizations on the BI system (and therefore on the BI server) allows the visualizations to be transported and translated like BEx objects.

    Note Note

If you are already connected to a BI system and you want to save the Xcelsius visualization in a d different BI system, choose Disconnect in the SAP menu and then Publish as.

    End of the note.
  8. To display the Xcelsius visualization, choose Start in the SAP menu. The visualization is displayed in a new browser window. Navigation in the displayed data is restricted to filters and variables.

    Note Note

Note that you can only use the option Start if you have already saved the visualization in a BI system.

    End of the note.
