Procedure documentationEditing Plan Data Automatically  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

In order to edit plan data automatically, you must have already created a planning function and a parameter group. You must also have selected the planning package that contains the data the function will access.

Procedure

The use and operation of the various planning functions is to a large extent identical. The procedures and various details for the predefined planning functions are described below:

...

       1.      Add the characteristics or key figures, whose values are to be changed by the planning function, to the Fields to Be Changed list.

Note

Characteristics and key figures that have already been included in a planning function's list of condition fields cannot be changed by the same planning function.

Depending on the type of planning function, it may be the case that the definition of the fields to be changed is not necessary. In this case, the list of these fields does not appear.

       2.      Decide which characteristics you want for the definition of conditions and add these to the list of Fields for Conditions. Which characteristics are available depends on which characteristics were included in the planning level to which the planning function belongs.

With some planning function types you have the additional option of using key figures for the definition of conditions.

       3.      Add the characteristics or key figures, the values of which are to be used as reference data by the planning function when generating new data, to the Reference Data list.

Note

Depending on the type of planning function, it may be that the definition of the reference data is not necessary. In this case, the list of these fields does not appear. For an overview of the available field types per function type, see Planning Functions.

       4.      Create a parameter group. In the parameter group you enter values for the characteristics and key figures that you selected as condition fields, fields to be changed or reference fields in the definition of the planning function.

Editing the parameter group varies depending on which objects you have selected for the planning function:

¡        If you have selected condition fields, first enter the necessary data for the conditions. With some planning functions (such as “distribution with reference data”) it is also possible to maintain all other settings here.

¡        Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Detail Screen. A table appears in which you maintain the fields of those values that are being changed. With planning functions of type “distribute by key”, those tables are ready for input in which you have to enter values for the characteristic that is being distributed to, and the key.

¡        If reference data is required, you can also enter values for the reference data on the detail screen. In general, one value only can be entered for the reference data.

According to the type of planning function you can also make additional technical settings in the parameter group.  For example, you can decide for planning functions of type “copy” whether the plan data generated by the planning function overwrites existing data records with the same key, or whether it is added to these.

       5.      Execute the planning function. To do this, choose Execute Planning Function from the context menu of the parameter group.

Note

When executing a planning function the system must be able to determine for which planning package in the current planning level the function is to be carried out. If the system cannot determine this, it will issue an appropriate message. In this case, select a planning package by double clicking on it or select any function from the context menu of the package.

Recommendation

With the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Active Objects function you can make the system display a list of those objects that are active at the current point in time and which your actions refer to.

Result

The plan data is generated automatically depending on the function you have selected. After the planning function has been executed, a message appears informing you whether execution was successful or if any errors have occurred. You can review the generated plan data using a planning layout with the function manual planning.

Note

If you carry out a planning function while a planning layout from manual planning is open, the system loads all new or changed data into the planning layout as soon as the function is carried out. This means that you get immediate feedback on the result of the function.

To save the generated data permanently in the database, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Save All. This way, not only the plan data is saved, but also all other changes made to the planning architecture objects, the planning functions, and the parameter groups since the last time you saved.
