This part of SAP Library gives you an overview of the changes and new features in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP12 since SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP11.

This information is provided as release notes, which are structured by Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) processes. The following table gives you an overview of new, enhanced and deleted functions in the Application Operations process.

Parallelization of the Event Calculation Engine

New

The core of the E2E Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure is the Event Calculation Engine (ECE), which performs the most important calculations in MAI. ECE has new functions which can perform these calculations in largely in parallel and considerably improve performance, particularly in large system landscapes with a lot of managed objects. You can determine the type and scope of parallelization with parameters.

Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure Analysis Tools

Changed

The End-to-End Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI) contains a lot of analysis tools for error handling. These tools have been extended, and the corresponding transaction (MAI_TOOLS) has been restructured to facilitate the usage of the tools.

Dashboard for Technical Monitoring

New

You can get an overview of selected metrics and events, determined by the E2E Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI), in the Technical Monitoring dashboard. There is a list of proposed metric and event values with which to configure the dashboard, which you can adjust according to your requirements.

Tutorial: Creating and Registering Dashboard Apps

Changed

In the Tutorial for Creating and Registering Dashboard Apps you can create apps, detail apps, and config apps of the Dashboard Framework, including translation aspects and data provision in increasing complexity. This tutorial has been extended and now contains a chapter about creating a context app, which you can use to do configuration not on app level but for all apps of a dashboard on dashboard level.

Tutorial part 8: Create a Dashboard with Context App

Technical Information about Interactive Reporting

New

Interactive reporting displays the development of the most important metrics of your managed objects, centrally, to identify potential problems early, and give an overview of the load, availability and performance of these objects. The documentation about interactive reporting has been extended and now contains information about the technical foundations, performance, and troubleshooting tools. The documentation is divided into reporting based on the E2E Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI) and on ABAP statistical records.

Workflow Monitoring

Enhanced

Additional analysis functions allow you to display

  • the status of processes or tasks over the time

  • the average, maximum or minimum processing times of processes

Workflow Monitoring

Interface and Connection Monitoring

Enhanced

You can monitor additional types of interfaces:

  • SAP Public Cloud Communications (SAP HANA Cloud Integration, for example):

  • BDocs and CRM Middleware

  • Workflow

Interface and Connection Monitoring

Interface and Connection Monitoring

Enhanced

You can monitor the performance of Web Services in a dedicated dashboard. To find values for SLA reporting, for example, you can monitor average execution times of web service operations. To get clues to root causes of poorly performing operations, you can display the average duration of processes on an hourly basis. You get an indication whether the data base, the operation, the system, or the amount of data transferred is the cause.

Monitoring the Performance of Web Services

Message Flow Monitoring

Enhanced

In an SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI) landscape, Message Flow Monitoring (MFMon) monitors the status of business-critical message-based transactions, centrally. A business power user, for example, can check the status of B2B or A2A processes without needing to access a PI system. An application supporter can monitor the message flows, for example, to identify the root cause of failed message flow instances and resolve issues.

The reporting feature helps is analyzing the alerts statuses of the message flow.

Message Flow Monitoring

Job Monitoring

Enhanced

Unified Job Monitoring allows you to monitor all the business-critical background jobs such as ABAP jobs, BW process chains, Business Objects Jobs and Data Services jobs, centrally.

Single exceptions

New

You can collect single exceptions from any defined log store (including 3rd party log stores) on many types of technical systems, not just ABAP log stores.

Exception Management

Coupling to MAI

Enhanced

For single exceptions on ABAP systems, you can automatically activate MAI-based monitoring within the exception management configuration application. The monitoring activation and setup is implemented as a second configuration step.

Configuring Collection of Single Exceptions

Configuring collection of exceptions

Changed

The UI for configuring collection of exceptions has changed. The Overview tab page has a new menu item, Setup IPA, for configuring collection of multi-step exceptions.
