This process supports you when creating templates that you can reuse in other projects or solutions. In the context of a global rollout scenario, you can create templates at headquarters containing business scenarios, blueprint documents, and configuration content, and distribute them to subsidiaries.

In template projects, you pass through the following phases:

  • Create a project

To generate templates, you must first define a template project. In Project Administration, you can create and edit a project by defining the system landscape for the individual project phases and specifying the project scope and standards (see Project Administration).

  • Planning

The planning phases encompasses the following steps:

    • Roadmap

You obtain predefined project plans with a collection of activities and tasks, as well as accelerators and tools that cover the most important aspects and project phases (such as Global ASAP Roadmaps, see .http://www.service.sap.com/asap). You can also define your own roadmap.

    • Business Blueprint

In the Business Blueprint, you create or enhance the project structure for your company-specific business processes. By separating your business scenarios, business processes, and process steps, you can assign transactions, business functions, and the relevant documentation to the structure items.

In the template, you define the structure hierarchy for the business processes and scenarios by including your own or preconfigured content, and then configuring it. You restrict the relevance of structure nodes using countries or industries. For a global rollout, you can restrict the changeability of a template by assigning a global attribute. You can also assign specific business processes to Solution pacakges in a template.

To identify and integrate possible changes and improvements, you can perform a comparison in any phase of the lifecycle between the current version of structure objects and the comparison version in the project or solution (such as structure objects from an updated template in an implementation project). For more information, see Comparing and Adjusting Structure Contents by Phases of the Lifecycle.

  • Create

This phase encompasses the following steps:

    • Configuration

In technical configuration, you specify cross-scenario settings. Based on the process requirements from the project structure in the business blueprint, you configure the individual structure items for your business scenarios in the development systems and document these steps.

    • Business Configuration Sets (BC Sets)

SAP provides you with BC Sets with which you can configure your data.

    • Managing learning materials

You can provide end users with IT-supported self-training courses by creating role-specific learning maps with learning objects for the individual structure items. These are based on your project structure.

  • Testing

You can test your business processes based on the configuration and scenario structures. To do so, use the test cases provided for your solution and assign additional test cases to the individual business processes and process steps. Once you have created the test plans, you can call the tester worklists and begin testing.

You can use template test plans to reduce the effort required for test plan managed for template projects. If you reuse these template test plans by using the template within an implementation project, you can copy the tester assignments or test sequences in a single step.

For more information, see Test Management.

  • Prepare Production Start

You can reuse the templates that you have created in other projects and can therefore include preconfigured content (see Working with a Template). The business scenarios and processes implemented in your project, as well as the corresponding system information, are transferred to a customer-specific storage location (Solution Directory). In the solution, you manage and monitor your business processes in operational use. For more information, see Solutions.

  • Evaluations

You can enter information in each project phase. On this basis, you can create cross-project, cross-phase, or phase-specific reports.
