Data Volume Management (DVM) monitors the volume of data in your system landscape. Using the DVM work center, you can reduce the size of databases and the amount of data in your landscape, significantly lowering total operating costs.

The DVM work center displays details of data volume movements in single or multiple system landscapes. The work center is based on an SAP NetWeaver BW system and provides an integrated, landscape-based view of your data.

Prerequisites

You are authorized to use this work center. For more information, see Using the Work Center.

Features

  • Overview

You can access all the functions described below directly from the overview.

  • Status Summary

You can check the status of all completed or scheduled DVM data extractors and analysis jobs in your SAP Solution Manager system. You can also display the number of service sessions you have specified.

You can specify grouping criteria to bundle systems and save them under separate solution names for analysis using the DVM technical scenarios. This can be useful in complex landscapes.

  • Improvement Projects

You create Data Volume Management improvement projects with predefined objectives. You can then track your progress toward these goals using the Interactive Continuous Improvement (ICI) dashboard.

  • Analyses

You can create new analyses to generate complex reports about the data in your landscape, as well as display and change currently scheduled analyses. You can schedule various types of analyses, for example, to determine the age of data records, analyze deletion potential, identify simple and complex archiving objects, and so on.

  • Forecast & Simulation

You can experiment with different parameters to simulate the impact of various data reduction measures on the database size of a system and the expected cost savings over a defined period.

  • Decision Maker

You use the Decision Maker function to determine which objects consume the most data in your systems. You use the results of this analysis to rank and prioritize objects for Data Volume Management.

  • Statistics and Trends

You can analyze the data distribution, table usage, age structure, and scope of the business objects in your system landscape.

  • Reorganization and Compression

You can use the Reorganization and Compression function to simulate technical data volume reduction processes, such as reorganization and compression of database tables and indexes.

  • Impact and References

You can use the Impact and References function to help you determine the links between technical objects and business-related information. The analysis provides your technical team with an overview of how objects are used by your business in practice.

  • Potential Savings

You can calculate the potential savings that can be achieved by archiving or deleting data in your system landscape.

  • Archiving Information

You can display information about archiving jobs, archiving statistics, and archiving file statistics.

  • Service Documents

You can display service documents for DVM service sessions and create new service documents.

  • Reports

You can use all customer templates or SAP standard Web templates for customer DVM report requirements.
