In the Continuous Improvement app, you can work with previously configured KPI measurement results for data stored in the backend BW system(s). The app is displayed in the Continuous Improvement Dashboard.
Using the corresponding Guided procedures, set up the KPI Measurement Platform as described in the SAP Solution Manager Configuration Work Center.
Using the methodology of the Measurement Platform under http://www.service.sap.com/measurement-platform, you can navigate as follows: . The Measurement Platform contains the following sections:
Under Definition & Architecture, you can find a list of SAP Enterprise Support KPIs and their areas of application or improvement.
Under KPI Overview, you can find an explanation of the types of KPIs used in the Continuous Improvement Dashboard app.
Under Measurement Tool, the integration with the SAP Enterprise Support Engagement Model is explained, together with information on how to run the measurement tool. This tool describes how to work with the KPI data that can subsequently be displayed in the Continuous Improvement app. You can get further detailed information in SAP Note 1504004, which also describes the prerequisites for working with SAP Solution Manager 7.0.
To work with this app, proceed as follows:
Call the app from the Dashboard.
Access the tab whose data you want to review or simulate. Each tab has dropdown options, detail tabs and simulation options, which you can use to display or simulate the data.
Note
You cannot configure or make any changes to this app.
The following data is displayed in the individual tabs:
KPI Improvement: An overview of improvement or deterioration per KPI (reflecting the delta between the two last measurements) and the total improvement since the initial baseline measurement was carried out. This calculated KPI value can be easily compared to those of earlier measurements, which helps to identify problems and make the right decisions for actions to be taken. A positive change in the KPI value indicates an improvement of the effort drivers related to the input variables. You can display the following data:
Green (improvement in percent) and red (deterioration in percent) column display
Individual improvement values or total improvement values
KPI Measurement History: A detailed overview of the last 10 measurement values for all of the KPIs listed under the tab KPI Definition. A KPI value is the calculated result based on several input variables. The input variables used are relevant to calculate the overall effort in the context of solution operation.
Comparison with SUGEN benchmarks: Compares the latest KPI values in your system with the Global SUGEN benchmark values. You can display benchmark values for the following categories, both for the current values and for the global values:
Changes: Emergency changes, failed changes (both in percent)
Software status: Measures the deviation from the current deployment (in points)
Custom code footprint: Measures the footprint with respect to benchmarks (in points)
CPU: Measures the total of required CPU as compared to benchmarks
Storage: Measures the storage allocation volume (in KB per data record)
You can display benchmark values for the following geographic areas:
Global (overall) values
APJ: Asia-Pacific Japan
Americas
EMEA
The color coding here is as follows:
Blue: Same as the benchmark
Green: Better than the benchmark
Red: Worse than the benchmark
Benefit Simulation: You can view specific benefit cases, such as KPI availability in chart form, including data such as downtimes or average costs per downtime. There are two tabs here:
Value Mechanism: Contains detailed textual information (recommendation/actions, how to measure the KPIs, IT-related as well as business-related benefits of KPI improvement) on each of the following benefit cases:
Availability
Incident resolution
Incidents effort
Emergency changes
Impact of changes
Failed changes
Software status
Custom code footprint
CPU utilization
Required storage space
Maintenance effort
Performance
Benefit Simulation: Here you can change the input parameters and use the Simulation Area to simulate improvement in specific areas.
KPI Definition: You can display the following detailed data on selected KPIs, similarly as for the benefit cases under the Benefit simulation tab:
Availability of systems
Resolution of incidents
Effort need to resolve incidents
Change data (emergency changes, impact of changes, failed changes)
Software status
Custom code footprint
CPU utilization
Required storage space
Maintenance effort
Performance
InFor each KPI, the data displayed is:
Definition of the KPI measurement goal and scope
Definition of the metrics involved
Identification of specific optimization requirements
The Enterprise Support elements that are required for action
The deliverables that are the outcome of the optimization efforts
You can get more information on how the Custom Code footprint is defined under Custom Code Management Apps.
