You can configure alerts to monitor the execution of background jobs.

You can view background information on configuring alerts for Job Monitoring by using the quick help.

Prerequisites

You are in the Edit Monitor Object view. For more information, see Configuring Job Monitoring.

Procedure

To edit the tab, proceed as follows:

  1. Select the Alert Configuration tab.

  2. Select an alert type based on the start procedure that you specified when configuring the identification data. The following matrix outlines the selection options:

You can specify whether an alert applies to a specific business process step rather than the entire job (for example, if particular messages are generated by one specific step).

    • Duration

You specify threshold values for the time taken to execute a background job. If the threshold values are not reached for yellow and red alerts, the system generates a green alert that indicates the time taken to execute the background job.

      1. Upper Threshold Value for Yellow Alert: Specify the maximum execution time of a background job after which you want to receive a yellow alert. The value is in minutes.

      2. Upper Threshold Value for Red Alert: Specify the maximum execution time of a background job after which you want to receive a red alert. The value is in minutes.

    • Not Started on Time: Specify the delay as of which a yellow or red alert is to be generated. You enter this time in the hh:mm:ss format. You use this alert type if the background job does not have a defined start time, and the only prerequisite is that it must have started by a particular time.

You can specify multiple control times with their ratings (yellow or red alert).

      Note Note

If you use Not Started on Time, you cannot use the Job Active alert type.

      End of the note.
    • Delayed End

      1. Planned End Time: Specify until when the job must run. You enter this time in the hh:mm:ss format.

      2. Threshold Value for Yellow Alert: Specify the maximum delay after which you want to receive a yellow alert. The entry is in minutes.

      3. Threshold Value for Red Alert: Specify the maximum delay after which you want to receive a red alert. The entry is in minutes.

    • Outside Time Window

You use this alert type if the exact start time for the background job is not known. To do this, you define a time period within which the background job must have been executed. You can use this alert type if you selected Use Job Start Condition as the start procedure when you configured the identification data.

The time period must be greater than 1 day.

      1. Start of Time Window: Enter the time at which the time window should start. You enter this time in the hh:mm:ss format.

      2. End of Time Window: Enter the time at which the time window should end. You enter this time in the hh:mm:ss format.

      3. Threshold Value for Yellow Alert: Specify the delay after which you want to receive a yellow alert. The entry is in minutes.

      4. Threshold Value for Red Alert: Specify the delay after which you want to receive a red alert. The entry is in minutes.

    • Delayed Start

      1. Threshold Value for Yellow Alert: Specify the maximum start delay after which you want to receive a yellow alert. The entry is in minutes.

      2. Threshold Value for Red Alert: Specify the maximum start delay after which you want to receive a red alert. The entry is in minutes.

If a start time is not defined for the background job, the delay is a technical delay, such as a resource bottleneck.

    • Parallel Processing: You specify the maximum number of background jobs that can be processed in parallel and above which the system is to generate a yellow or red alert. You do this if background jobs have to start at the same time.

This alert type is only active if you did not select the No option under Parallel Jobs when identifying the background job.

      • If you selected Yes, number known, you must specify the exact number of background jobs to be expected and the alert level.

      • If you selected No, number unknown, you must specify the alert level.

    • Cancel Job: Specify whether a job cancellation should produce a yellow or a red alert.

    • Job Active: Specify whether phases of inactivity should produce a yellow or a red alert after a specific duration.

      Note Note

If you use the Job Active alert type, you cannot use the Not Started on Time alert type.

      End of the note.
    • Job Log Messages: You specify the message classes, message numbers, and message types that the system is to monitor in the job log. You define the thresholds for the number of entries that result in yellow or red alerts. To add a job log message, proceed as follows:

      1. Choose Add and

      2. Message Type: Enter the message type. The message type classifies messages according to success, information, crash, error, and warning.

      3. Enter the following data:

        • Message Class: Enter the message class ID.

        • Message Number: Enter the message number.

        • Lower Limit for Yellow Alert: Specify the number of expected messages to trigger a yellow alert.

        • Lower Limit for Red Alert: Specify the number of expected messages to trigger a red alert.

        • Yellow Alert Upper Limit: Specify the number of unexpected messages to trigger a yellow alert.

        • Red Alert Upper Limit: Specify the number of unexpected messages to trigger a red alert.

    • Job Log Content:

Some applications generate messages, for example, indicating the number of errors that occurred when the background job was executed. You can use this information to trigger alerts. You create counters to allow threshold values to be specified for alerts. You can assign up to three counters to each background job. To create a counter, enter the data indicated below. You must enter at least one threshold value for each counter:

      • Short Text: Enter the text that is to appear in the alert message. You can enter up to 20 characters:

      • Message Class: Enter the type of message.

      • Message Number: Enter the number of the message for which occurrences are to be counted.

      • Message Variable: Enter the name of the message variable that occurs in the message, for example, if the message indicates the number of documents processed by a program.

  3. Save your entries.
