You create a job request when you want to schedule a new job.

Procedure

Creating a Basic Job Request for a New Job
  1. In the Job Management work center, under Common Tasks, choose Create Basic Job Request.

    The Job Request form appears.

  2. Choose the request type Request: Create New Job.

  3. Enter a name for the job you wish to create. You can use the Check feature to ensure that the name follows the suggested naming convention.

    Note Note

To base your job request on the data from existing job documentation, use the input help to search for and select the job documentation. The system will load its details into the current form, which you can then edit.

    End of the note.
  4. Select a system and a client. You can use the input help or make the entries directly.

    Note Note

If you have selected existing job documentation, the input help only displays the corresponding systems and clients.

    End of the note.
  5. Specify the date until which the job request is to be valid.

  6. If desired, you can specify job steps. For each step you add, you must specify a description and a command or report.

  7. Under Schedule, enter the job scheduling information:

    • Repeat: Specify whether the job is to run once (ad hoc) or periodically. For periodic jobs, specify the interval.

    • Frequency: Specify the frequency of the interval.

    • Planned Start Date

    • Optionally, you can enter the planned start time and last permissible start date and time for the job, as well as free text details about the start condition.

  8. Under Business Context, you must enter text descriptions of the business requirements (for example, why you are scheduling a job) and the business process. The other specifications (Region, Country Code, Organization, Business Area, and Business Priority) are optional.

  9. Under Request Overview, specify the following:

    • The transaction type determines whether the job request will generate an incident in IT Service Management or a request for change in Change Request Management.

    • The predecessor ID enables you to link the job request with the original message via document flow.

      Example Example

A user has created a message. While processing the message you notice that you must change the scheduling of a job. Therefore you create a job request and link to the original message in the Predecessor ID field.

      End of the example.
    • Message priority

    • Short and long text explanation of your request

    • Business partner of the reporter, and, optionally, the processor and sold-to-party

You can use the input help or you can enter the business partner directly and then press ENTER. The system displays the associated contact information.

      Note Note

The selected system determines which business partners are listed in the input help, so be sure to select the system before you specify the business partner.

      End of the note.
  10. Submit the job request.

Creating a Detailed Job Request for a New Job
  1. In the Job Management work center, under Common Tasks, choose Create Detailed Job Request.

    The Job Request form appears.

  2. Choose the request type Request: Create New Job.

The following table explains what information you can provide on each of the tab pages of the detailed job request form. The job request form has a structure similar to the job documentation, so when the job request is approved, the information you provide in the job request can be copied to the job documentation.

    Tab Page

    Description

    General

    • Job request name

    • Product system and client

    • Date until which the job request is to be valid

    • The transaction type, priority, and other information for processing the job request

    Business

    • Text description of the business requirements and business process

You can select an existing solution from the input help. When you have selected a solution, the projects and scenarios are loaded into the drop-down list.

    • Scenario and business process step

When you assign a business process step, the system assigns a logical component.

      Note Note

Remember that you are assigning a logical component for which the previously specified system or previously specified client is the production system.

      End of the note.

    Scheduling

Document which organizations are responsible for a background job, which business priority the background job has, and for which purpose it is required.

    Tasks

Create tasks for job documentation. You can then allocate these tasks to employees for processing.

  3. Submit the job request.

Result
