A non-SAP product in the system landscape is either developed by a customer (“customer product”) or by a company other than SAP (“third-party product”). Non-SAP products do not have an entry in the SAP software catalog. They can be deployed in SAP runtimes, like AS ABAP or AS Java, or in non-SAP runtimes, like IBM WebSphere.

Products that were not developed by SAP but that are described in the SAP Software Catalog (“partner products”) do not fall in the non-SAP products category.

Procedure

Create New Non-SAP Product Descriptions

  1. Start transaction SMSY.

  2. Click Product Definitions in the navigation tree.

  3. Select Create Additional Product from the context menu of any existing product.

  4. Enter a technical product key. It is recommended to enter the prefix Y_ or Z_.

    Enter a short product name and a longer product description.

  5. Choose Save.

  6. A first product version and a first product instance are created automatically. You can change or extend them if required.

  7. Save the proposal or your changes.

  8. To migrate a non-SAP product from transaction SMSY to the SLD, start transaction SE38 and run the report RLMDB_MIGRATE_NONSAP_PRODUCTS.

  9. Enter the required values and execute the report.

    For more information, choose the Info button on the report UI.

  10. When the migration is complete, wait for the next synchronization between SLD and LMDB, which takes place every 10 minutes by default.

    Then, newly created non-SAP products are available for further use in the LMDB.

Assign the New Product in the LMDB

  1. In transaction LMDB, assign the product to the technical systems where the product is deployed.

  2. You can now assign the non-SAP products and product instances to product systems.

    Product systems are the basis for logical components containing the non-SAP product.

Delete Non-SAP Product Descriptions

You can delete a non-SAP product descriptions from the LMDB with the report RLMDB_DELETE_CUSTOMER_PRODUCT.

The deletion is not propagated to SMSY.
