Procedure documentationDetermining Dependency Statements for Upgrade Options Locate this document in the navigation structure

In an analysis project, you want to determine dependency statements for product instances that are connected to plan an upgrade. You can evaluate the calculated dependency statements yourself and therefore control the overall status of the analysis project. You have the aim of selecting the planned target product version so that, as far as possible, non-critical target statuses result, and of maintaining the executability of functions that are currently available after the upgrade.

Prerequisites

You have selected an analysis project and are in change mode.

Procedure

  1. Check which product version and instances you want to upgrade.

The expanded list of product systems shows all relevant product instances from the Solution Manager System Landscape, together with the logical components recorded in the Solution Directory or the project management.

You can use the following functions to establish a clearer overview of the system landscape:

    • Switch view

You can choose between the "Product System" view and the "Technical System" view. The hierarchy is as follows: Product system or technical system - product version - product instance.

    • Filter

You can filter the list by certain criteria (such as technical system, system type, system role). This is particularly useful for extensive system landscapes.

  2. (optional) For planning purposes, you can add additional product systems, product instances, and the logical components that have already been created for them, but which do not currently exist in your project or solution landscape. Choose Add.

    Note Note

If you want to plan the installation of enhancement packages that are modeled as add-on products (such as SAP ERP, SAP CRM, SAP SCM, and SAP SRM), you first need to assign the enhancement package to the associated product system as the starting product version. You then need to explicitly select the appropriate logical component.

    End of the note.
  3. Select the current product version that you want to update, and choose Plan Upgrade.

  4. Use the input help to select the planned target product version and confirm.

By default, the system suggests the highest suitable product version.

    Note Note

In the case of Enhancement Packages that are modeled as Add-On products, you need to select the product version of the Enhancement Package again as the target product version.

    End of the note.
  5. (optional) To select a different logical component as the upgrade target, select the product instance and choose Change.

    1. Use the input help to select the logical component that you want to exchange.

    2. Use the input help to select the new logical target component, starting from the planned target product version.

  6. Save your changes.

  7. Choose Display Connections.

The connection evaluation displays the logical components between which interfaces have been recorded in the Solution Directory. This indicate the connected product instances.

  8. (optional) To add connections for which there are no interfaces between logical components, choose Define Connection Manually.

For the product instances, between which you want to define a connection, specify the appropriate existing logical component and the logical target component.

  9. To obtain dependency statements, choose Check Connections.

A dependency statement is automatically calculated for each connection.

  10. Repeat the step sequence if necessary by planning with a different target product version. Select the target product version so that you achieve a consistent target status for the product system and the technical systems involved.

Result

The system displays a dependency statement for each connection and, if one exists, an SAP Note for the planned target product version. The system automatically assigns a status to each dependency statement, with which the planning status of a product system and the overall status of the analysis report are aggregated.

Use the input help to make a valuation of individual dependency statements. To assign a comment to a dependency statement, choose Create in the relevant line. Save your entries.

You can also print your analysis project and all the analysis data as a PDF. To do so, you must activated Adobe Document Services. For more information about Adobe Document Services, see the SAP Help Portal under   http://help.sap.com   SAP NetWeaver <Release>  .
