The DVM Planning Dashboard provides an overview of the amount of data in your online database ABAP-based SAP systems and application components. The dashboard also displays the age distribution of the data, which indicates where planning your data reduction measures would be most effective.

In particular, the DVM Planning Dashboard helps in the decision-making process used to define in which systems and application components to take data reduction measures first. The system landscape overview that the dashboard provides helps you to prioritize your data reduction measures to gain the maximum benefit for the entire system landscape, not just for individual systems.

The residence time determines the potential effect of data reduction measures. After the residence time, you can delete or archive data. In the dashboard, you can vary the residence time and observe the effect. The default residence time is two years. In some application areas, the residence time can be shorter. For more information about how to set the residence time, see Configuring Dashboards.

The DVM Planning Dashboard displays the following apps:

  • Overview

The app gives an overview of the amount of data in your systems and application areas.

  • Yearly Data, Monthly Data, Table Data

The apps show, for a selected application area or system, the business-process-related age distribution of the data.

Call the Dashboard

In the Solution Manager Data Volume Management work center, in the Related Links area, choose DVM Planning Dashboard.

Integration

You can use the DVM Planning Dashboard for the managed systems that you selected in the SAP Solution Manager Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP) in the Data Volume Management scenario, in the Scope Selection step, and that you configured in the steps Technical Preparation to Create Template Users.

To gather the age information, several objects in the online systems are used. The information from these objects is processed to determine the age distribution of the data in your system landscape. The age can be measured from various reference points: for example, it can be the date when the data was created or when it was last changed, or, as in the FI application component, it can be the year of the posting date.

How often the age information is extracted is also configured in the SAP Solution Manager Configuration, in the Data Volume Management scenario, Activate DVM Extractors step. Use this information to plan your data reduction measures in more detail.
