This process goes automatically to SAP Solution Manager, to schedule jobs in a managed system. The SAP Solution Manager system checks whether the job which you want to create or change, is already scheduled. The job control integrates the job scheduling transactions in your managed systems with the job scheduling in SAP Solution Manager. You have control and an overview of all jobs which a user schedules or changes, for example in transaction SM36 or SM37.

Note Note

For further information about the job scheduling transactions in your managed system, see Background Processing.

End of the note.

When you use job control, control over job scheduling is passed to SAP Solution Manager. This means:

  • The system automatically forwards any user who tries to schedule or change periodic or ad-hoc jobs in the transactions SM36 or SM37, to the SAP Solution Manager job control.

    Note Note

Periodic jobs are jobs which run at regular intervals. Ad-hoc jobs run once only.

    End of the note.
  • To schedule or change jobs, you must submit a job request. When the job request is approved, you must create job documentation.

  • You can monitor the job scheduling with the central job request and job documentation in SAP Solution Manager.

Prerequisites

You have made the settings required by job control (see Configuring Job Control and Ad-Hoc Jobs).

Process

The job control compises the following steps:

  1. If you start the transaction SM36 in your managed system, to create a job, the SAP Solution Manager Create Job Request guided procedure opens.

  2. You must make the following entries in this Web Dynpro application, depending on the job type (periodic or ad-hoc):

    • In job control, periodic jobs must be approved before they can be scheduled. The approval process requires a job request.

You must plan and request periodic jobs, attaching any necessary attachments to the request, in thejob control Web Dynpro application.

    • Depending on your ad-hoc job configuration settings (see Ad-Hoc Jobs), ad-hoc jobs either need approval, or can be scheduled directly.

      Note Note

By default, you can schedule ad-hoc jobs directly in the managed systems.

If ad-hoc jobs can be scheduled directly, do so in the Job Control Web Dynpro application.

      End of the note.
  3. If there is a job request, it goes through the approval process.

  4. The data in any change document, is copied into the job documentation, on which the job scheduling is based, automatically. For more information, see Processing Change Documents.

  5. The job is scheduled on the basis of the job documentation.
