Creating Non-SAP Product Descriptions
A non-SAP product in the system landscape is either developed by a customer (“customer product”) or by a company other than SAP (“third-party product”). Non-SAP products do not have an entry in the SAP software catalog. They can be deployed in SAP runtimes, like AS ABAP or AS Java, or in non-SAP runtimes, like IBM Websphere.
Products that were not developed by SAP but that are described in the SAP Software Catalog (“partner products”) do not fall in the non-SAP products category.
It is required to create a non-SAP product description in the SAP Solution Manager if you need to describe solutions that contain these products. You create the product description in transaction SMSY. It is then copied to the Landscape Management Database (LMDB), where you have to configure the technical system and product system information. The related logical components are created in transaction SMSY again.
Note
You can only create non-SAP products yourself.
You can only create a product if you assign at least one product version and one product instance to it. So you can only create active products.
Your role is authorized to create products. For more information, see the Security Guide SAP Solution Manager at
In the SAP Solution Manager system, start transaction SMSY and choose Product Definitions. Non-SAP products appear at the end of the product list.
Select Create Additional Product from the context menu of any existing product.
Enter a technical product key. It is recommended to enter the prefix Y_ or Z_.
Enter a short product name and a longer product description.
Save your entries (two times).
A first product version and a first product instance are created automatically. You can change or extend them if required.
To copy a non-SAP product from transaction SMSY to the LMDB, start transaction SE38 and run the report RLMDB_MIGRATE_SINGLE_PRODUCT.
In transaction LMDB, assign the product to the technical systems where the product is deployed.
Create or change product systems containing these technical systems accordingly. The product systems are the basis for logical components containing the non-SAP product.
You can delete a non-SAP product from the LMDB with the report RLMDB_DELETE_CUSTOMER_PRODUCT.
The data is saved to the system landscape description. You can assign the products and product versions to logical components.
