 Management of Checks (PF)

Purpose

You can use this process to issue, request, block, unblock, delete and display the checks of an account, along with the respective status.

Use check management if you do not use check stack management. However, SAP recommends you only manage checks by means of the check stacks as this functionality allows you an overview of all checks in your bank.

Process Flow

If you wish to issue a check independently of check stack management, you have two options of noting this in the system.

  • If the check number has already been specified by the user, the check is passed to the system by means of “Issue check”. In this case you must specify the check numbers.

  • If you want the check number to be assigned by the system during creation, create the check by means of “Request check”. The system then assigns the next free number to the checks to be issued. You can also use an event (Business Transaction Event: Check number issuing: Request new numbers) to call up an external system for check number issuing (for example, the system that prints the checks), that then issues a new number and reports this accordingly.

The check is then managed in the system and has the status Issued .

If checks are to be issued to corporate customers without printed check numbers, you need to maintain further details in the account master. In this case, if a check debit comes into the system by means of payment transactions with a check number that does not yet exist in the system, you can choose whether the check must be entered in check management or not.

The check can still adopt the following statuses:

  • Blocked

If the check must be blocked, for example, due to loss, this can be done with a specified blocking reason both for a limited or unlimited time. As long as the block is active, check debits relating to this check are rejected by payment transactions.

  • Redeemed/settled

If the check is posted by payment transactions, the system updates the as Redeemed/settled .

  • Block removed

  • Returned

  • Partially redeemed

A partial amount was honored, the rest was returned.

  • Blocked by account closure

During the account closure process, the system updates the status of checks to Blocked by account closure for checks (that belong to the account being closed) with the following statuses:

    • Issued

    • Blocked

    • Lock removed

    • Returned

    • Issue requested

You cannot perform the following activities for checks that have the Blocked by account closure status:

    • Redeem the check

    • Block the check or remove the block on a check

    • Return the check

    • Partially redeem the check

  • Issue requested

The check numbers have been transferred to the external check printing system. The check printing system can report back by means of an interface and set the status to Issued . Choose Confirm print to change the status.

The system updates the Forced status field if the posting of the check was forced within account management (by means of force posting during postprocessing).
