Features

Segmentation-Dependent Valuation Data

In the standard SAP ERP system, the blank valuation type is available by default for every material and plant combination. If you activate this business function, in addition to the blank valuation type, the system allows you to maintain another valuation type for materials to which a segmentation strategy is assigned. To enable the product costing to differentiate the products with no segmentation value and the products with any segmentation value, the system allows you to define a new valuation type. As a result, during goods movement, products with segmentation are valuated with the new valuation type specifically created for the segmented products. To enable the system to execute this valuation process, you should assign one segment value as the default segment value for the material in the material master data that the system uses to create the new valuation type in accounting tables.

Consumption Priority

In the consumption process, the system compares planned independent requirement quantities and dates with actual customer requirements.

The consumption process is defined for every planning strategy in Customizing for Demand Management by the combination of a requirements type from Demand Management with a requirements type from requirement management.

This means that the requirements type entered when maintaining planned independent requirements is compared with the customer requirements type specified in Customizing.

You can use the consumption priority to define the sequence in which the system consumes the planned independent requirements (PIR). The PIRs are consumed based on the segmentation value, and then the consumption mode, or consumption mode, and then the segmentation value.

Default Requirement Segment Determination

You can carry out stock transfers between storage locations within a plant, between different plants, and between company codes. You cannot transfer materials with segmentation between plants with different segmentation strategies. You can only transfer materials with segmentation between plants with the same segmentation strategies.

You can also transfer materials with segmentation between plants if one of the plants is not relevant for segmentation. The system determines the default requirement segment during MRP based on the customization settings.

If both the receiving plant and the supplying plant are assigned the same segmentation strategy, you must define the mapping between the stock segment and the requirement segment of the plants involved.

Material Segmentation in Purchasing Documents

Using certain attributes such as quality and customer segments, you can use this business function to segment materials in the following documents in a structured way:

  • Quotation

  • Request for quotation

  • Scheduling agreement

Material Segmentation in Warehouse Management (WM) Processes

You can use this business function to segment materials logically based on certain attributes, for example, quality and customer segments. You can maintain the materials at segmentation level in warehouse management. With material segmentation, you not only have the option of working with strategies and of querying data for individual segments in reports, but you can also use functions and processes such as goods receipt, replenishment, and goods issue.

The material master has been enhanced to store data for capacity consumption, the strategy, palletization, and the storage bin. You can store weight information specific to segmentation in the material master.

The transfer requirement, transfer order, stock overview, and quant information screens to name a few, have been enhanced and display the segmentation value. Selection screens have also been enhanced so that you can select segmentation data.

Material Segmentation in the Manufacturing Processes

With this business function, you can segment the demand elements such as the customer sales order (items), stock transfer order (items) from stores or planned independent requirements and supply elements such as stock, planned order (items) and production order (items). When you use a material in the requirement or demand documents, you have to specify the requirement segment. When you use a material to create stock, you have to specify the stock segment.

Production-Specific Master Data

The master data for production and planning control - the production bill of materials (PBOM) and routing (task list) has been enhanced to handle materials with segmentation.

A material PBOM contains a header material along with its components. If you activate this business function, for each stock segment value of the header material, you can specify which component to be included or excluded in the BOM during its explosion in any BOM usage (such as planned order or production order). Similarly, a sales order BOM maintenance allows you to specify which component to be included or excluded in the BOM during its explosion in any BOM usage.

A routing or task list contains list of tasks in groups assigned to a header material. If you activate this business function, in the routing you can specify which group (counter) of task list is applicable for each segment value of the header material. You can define segment-specific settings for every group of task list.

Process Documents

If you activate this business function, you can specify the requirement segment for the header material in the planned order and production order documents. The requirements segment for the components of the header material is determined based on the mapping rule defined in the Dependent Requirements/Stock Transfer table in Customizing for Define Segmentation Strategies under Start of the navigation path Logistics - General Next navigation step Segmentation End of the navigation path or transaction SGTC). Here, the header material (stock) segment strategy/segment value combination is mapped to the component material (requirement) segment strategy/segment value combination.

When the BOM is exploded to determine the components, the stock segmentation value specified in the order document influences which component is included (through the PBOM master data's segmentation enhancement) and only those components are available in the production order.

Based on the stock segmentation value specified in the order document, only that group of task list which is assigned to the specified segment value is available for task list specification in the order document.

Reporting

The Order Progress Report has been enhanced to display the segment value for the header material and the requirement segment for the components is determined based on the mapping rule defined in the Dependent Requirements/Stock Transfer table in Customizing for Define Segmentation Strategies.

BOM Explosion Reporting

The material BOM explosion reports (transaction CS11, CS12, and CS13) have been enhanced to determine the components based on the segmentation value. For every stock segmentation value valid for the header material, the components specified in the material BOM definition are displayed in the reports. Those components that are not specified in the definition are not displayed in the reports.

Similarly, the sales order BOM explosion reports (transaction CSK1, CSK2, and CSK3) have been enhanced to determine the components based on the segmentation value. For the specific stock segmentation value determined for the header material in the sales order, the components specified in sales order BOM definition are displayed in the reports. Those components that are not specified in the definition are not displayed in the reports.
