Procedure documentationCreating VirtualProviders Based on a SAP HANA Model

You can create a VirtualProvider based on a SAP HANA model if you want to use this model in the BW system. Analysis views and authorization views are available as SAP HANA models.

Unlike the TransientProvider based on a SAP HANA model, the VirtualProvider based on a SAP HANA model is suitable for stable, long-term scenarios.

This VirtualProvider can be used in a MultiProvider. In addition, navigation attributes can be used. To use navigation attributes, you can select InfoObjects with master data access Standard or SAP HANA Attribute View.

The authorization in this case is the intersection between the BW analysis authorizations and the authorizations that the database user (SAP<SAPSID>) has for the schema in the SAP HANA database.

Prerequisites

You are using a SAP HANA database. You have created a SAP HANA model in SAP HANA Studio.

If you also want virtual master data for the VirtualProvider, then you need to start by creating virtual master data. More information: Using Virtual Master Data

Procedure

  1. In the Data Warehousing Workbench under Modeling, select the InfoProvider tree. In the context menu, choose Create VirtualProvider.

  2. Select Based on a SAP HANA Model.

  3. Choose Details. In the dialog box, enter the SAP HANA model and the package that it belongs to. Press Continue (Continue).

  4. Choose Create (Create). The VirtualProvider processing screen appears.

  5. The system can generate proposals for the required InfoObjects: Choose Assigning Attributes of the HANA Model.

  6. Select the attributes for which you want to generate proposals and choose Apply (Apply). A list of proposals appears. The attributes of the SAP HANA model are displayed in folders. The proposals are listed under these folders. Choose Technical Details (Technical Details) to display the strategy for creating proposals.

  7. Select a suitable proposal. If none of the suggested InfoObjects are suitable, you can initially leave the attribute unassigned and assign it manually later on. Press Continue (Continue).

  8. Assigning attributes manually:

Choose Provider-Specific InfoObject Properties from the context menu on the Dimensions and Key Figures folders. In the following dialog box, you can assign the InfoObjects to the attributes in the SAP HANA model.

  9. Choose Provider-Specific InfoObject Properties to switch on the referential integrity. This means an inner join is possible for this InfoObject, which leads to improved performance. Only select this option if you are certain that all the master data, which the transaction data in your SAP HANA model relates to, is available on your system.

  10. Activate the VirtualProvider.
