Configuring the PortalLocate this document in the navigation structure

Purpose

This IT process describes the steps you need to perform to begin the implementation of the Providing Uniform Content Access scenario variant. In this IT process, you perform all the necessary configuration steps in the portal so that the remaining IT processes in this scenario variant can be executed. Tasks include delegating portal administration tasks, creating initial content templates, and configuring portal connections to back-end systems.

The following portal administrator roles participate in this IT process:

  • System administrators
  • User administrators
  • Content administrators
  • Super administrators (may function as a substitute for the above administration roles)

Use of the Process

This process is part of the following IT scenarios:

Prerequisites

  • See "Prerequisites" in Running an Enterprise Portal .
  • The user administrator has connected the portal to its user base, such as Web AS ABAP user management, LDAP directories, or the database of the Web AS Java.

Process Flow

The following steps comprise this IT process:

  1. Set up delegated administration by distributing the administrative tasks and content in the portal to dedicated administrators:
    1. The system administrator assigns portal permission to the various preconfigured administrator roles. The system administrator may also assign permissions to initial content shipped with the portal. This content is located in the Portal Catalog.
    2. The user administrator performs initial role assignment by assigning various users in the organization to the preconfigured administrator roles.
  2. The content administrator creates and configures default content templates, such as iView and page templates. These templates are to be used by other content developers and administrators when portal content is generated.
  3. The system administrator configures the connections to back-end systems by creating systems in the portal's System Landscape Editor.

Result

The portal is configured so that content administrators and developers can begin the process of creating and importing portal content. In addition, system administrators can also begin the task of configuring the runtime portal display through the use of portal desktops and portal display rules. See Creating Portal Content .
