Function documentationPlanning Data

You can use this function to enter planning data for a location product, in cases in which no forecast data is available or can be calculated reliably for a new location product. Planning data represents the expected consumption data for a location product. It can be used as replacement forecast data for requirement calculation. You can also use planning data to simulate the effects of various parameters on stocks and ranges of coverage.

Prerequisites

You have configured the maximum retention period of the planning data. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Forecasting and Replenishment under Start of the navigation path Order Proposal Management Next navigation step Replenishment Workbench Next navigation step Settings for Time Series Screen End of the navigation path.

Features

Entering and changing planning data

You can enter planning data manually by day or week, but only for full business weeks.

You can enter the following planning data for a location product:

  • Constant value

  • Forecast data of similar products

  • History data from a comparable period in the previous year

  • Average consumption from the previous year

  • Average consumption of any period

You can select the location product and a multiplication factor (exception: constant value).

Safety amount

You can define whether you want the system to display planning data with or without safety amounts. If you choose to display planning data with safety amounts, you can enter it with safety amounts as well. You can define the safety amount as a percentage.

Usage period

You can define the point up to which the system uses the planning data as a as replacement forecast data.

Example Example

You are planning a new product for which you do not have any consumption data and you do not want to use a consumption reference. You define planning data from the listing start to three months in the future. You only want to use the planning data for two months in the future, however, because you assume that enough consumption data will be available by then. You enter the usage end time of the planning data as the listing date plus two months.

End of the example.

You can restrict the maximum duration of the usage period of planning data. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Forecasting and Replenishment under Start of the navigation path Order Proposal Management Next navigation step Replenishment Workbench Next navigation step Settings for Time Series Screen End of the navigation path.

Saving planning data

When you save planning data, it is inactive and the system uses it for simulation only. The system saves the planning data without safety stock, but with the safety amount as additional information for the time series.

Activating planning data

When you activate planning data, SAP F&R uses the planning data instead of the regular forecast data or other potential replacement forecast data (such as aggregated order forecasts) in the following functions:

  • Requirement calculation

  • Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR)

  • Calculation of range of coverage

You can see whether planning data is active or inactive in the description of the planning data time series and in the quick info text for the Activate/Deactivate Planning Data (Activate/Deactivate Planning Data) symbol.

Deleting planning data

You can delete or deactivate planning data that you no longer need.

When you delete location products, the deletion report also deletes all dependent data, including the planning data time series.

Comparing daily and weekly values

You can enter planning data manually by day or by week.

When you enter this data by week, the system distributes the data equally to the sales days for display in the daily granularity (disaggregation rule). If you enter at least one day of a week explicitly, the system highlights the planning data for that week in red: the entire week is now entered by exact day. The system aggregates the daily values of a given week to calculate the weekly value. When you enter a weekly value, the system disaggregates only that weekly value to the daily values.

When you enter data by exact day, the red highlighting indicates the granularity with which you edited the values of a time series.

When you supplement planning data time series and skip days or weeks, the system fills these values with zeros. These zeros show which weeks belong to your planning data time series.

Example Example

You enter additional values to an old interval with a daily granularity. The system fills all the remaining daily values between the old interval and the new business week with zeros.

End of the example.

When you delete individual fields within time series, the system also fills these values with zeros.

Using planning data

SAP F&R uses planning data in forecasting and requirement calculation, in Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR) and in calculation of the range of coverage to the end of the usage period.

  • Use in the Forecast and Replenishment Processor (FRP)

The system passes the planning data on to FRP in the granularity in which you entered it. During the usage period of the planning values, the system ignores demand influencing factors in FRP. For more information, see Forecasting.

  • Use in Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR)

SAP F&R uses the active forecast for a location product in CPFR when the location product is relevant for CPFR and you have defined a tactical forecast horizon, or if you have set the flag for the operative forecast. The active forecast consists of the following data:

    • Planning data

    • Data from the aggregated order forecast for a distribution center (DC)

    • Forecast data

Planning data has the highest priority. If no planning data is available, the system uses the data from the aggregated order forecast for a distribution center. If neither planning data nor data from the aggregated order forecast is available, the system uses forecast data. If you want to use planning data for a specific location product in CPFR, enter the planning data manually to overwrite the forecast data.

CPFR uses the planning data time series in the same manner as the Forecast and Replenishment Processor (FRP), except that CPFR uses the planning data time series in a weekly granularity and without safety amounts. The usage of a planning data time series in CPFR begins when it is activated and ends when the CPFR material staging date exceeds the specified usage end time. To end usage of a planning data time series prematurely, deactivate the planning data. In this case, the planning data is used for simulation purposes only.

For more information about CPFR, see Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR).

  • Use in calculation of range of coverage

The calculation of range of coverage uses planning data time series in the same manner as Forecast and Replenishment Planning (FRP), but without safety amounts. Planning data time series is used in the calculation of range of coverage starting with its activation and ending when one of the following conditions applies:

    • The planning date exceeds the usage end time of the planning data time series (for calculation of range of coverage with relation to an order proposal item)

    • The the current date exceeds the usage end time of the planning data time series (for calculation of range of coverage without relation to an order proposal item)

If the usage period ends before the last time series period required by calculation of range of coverage, the system uses the calculated forecast values for the remaining periods. To end usage of a planning data time series, deactivate the planning data.

Activities

You can maintain planning data in the time series screen of the Product Workbench, the Replenishment Workbench, and Cause Determination.
