The offsetting procedure used determines the sequence in which the net requirements calculation has requirements consume receipts as follows:
FIFO Procedure
In the FIFO procedure (FIFO =
first in first out
) the system has requirements consume fixed receipts in chronological order.
Avoid Surpluses
This procedure uses an offsetting logic that generates as few surpluses as possible.
Avoid Delays
This procedure uses an offsetting logic that generates as few delays as possible.
In the heuristic settings, which the standard net requirements calculation uses, you can choose between the procedures. The heuristic for
Planning shortage quantities
and the
actions
that should cover new or changed dependent requirements immediately, use the
Avoid Surpluses
procedure.
If you implement
characteristics-dependent planning
(CDP), the net requirements calculation takes account of the characteristic requirements and characteristic value assignments of the requirements or receipts. However, the net requirements calculation also processes the requirements and receipts here in strict accordance with the sequence defined by the offsetting procedure. The net requirements calculation does not try to find a more favorable solution for the material flow. There might be a more favorable sequence if you use characteristics with multiple value assignments, characteristics with intervals, or characteristics without value assignments.
