Selection of resources and products for which planning can be changed. This includes:
Creating and changing orders for these products
Changing the capacity and the planning parameters of these resources
Changing the resource assignment of these resources
The propagation range allows you to specify the resources and products for which you can make changes in planning either interactively or in the production planning run .
The resources in the propagation range are relevant for resource-related planning with detailed scheduling functions and detailed scheduling heuristics in the detailed scheduling planning board or in the production planning run. You can only change the planning for resources in the propagation range, meaning that you can schedule, reschedule, or deallocate operations at these resources only.
The products in the propagation range are relevant for product-related planning. You can only make changes in planning for products in the propagation range, meaning that you can create, change, or delete receipts for these products only.
If you create an order for a product that is in the propagation range but which contains components that are not in the propagation range, the system does not create any orders for these components.
Depending on the function executed, the system takes account of the constraints on products and resources defined in the propagation range as shown in the following table:
Planning functions |
Constraints considered from the propagation range |
Examples |
---|---|---|
Planning functions, which, in addition to the order dates/times and the usage of the modes, change additional order data |
Products and resources |
|
Detailed Scheduling functions that only change dates/times or the usage of the modes |
Resources only |
|
Deletion of orders |
Products only |
If you have not specified a propagation range for the planning function you are using, the system uses the propagation range you have entered in Customizing for
Supply Chain Planning
under
Maintain Global Parameters and Defaults
.
The propagation range is not relevant for the following processes:
Transferring orders from an OLTP system to the SAP APO system
