 Minimum Days' Supply

Definition

A value used to trigger alerts in PP/DS to inform the planner of critical situations regarding product availability. You can define up to three values (in calendar days) for the minimum days' supply when defining the days' supply type in Customizing for Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling . The values should allow you sufficient time to react to the problem to avoid a product shortage.

The days' supply is calculated automatically by the system when you call up the Alert Monitor or the Product View. The calculated days' supply is then compared to the values you have set for the minimum days' supply. As soon as the days' supply falls short of one of these values, an alert is generated. The three values have a different priority assigned to them and each causes a different alert to be triggered:

  • Error

Alert with the highest priority. You enter the lowest number of calendar days that still allows you to take action to avoid a product shortage. For example, if a product has a replenishment lead time of 5 days, you could enter 5 days' as the absolute minimum days' supply for this alert.

  • Warning

Alert with medium priority. The number of calendar days you enter for this alert should be higher than the error alert to allow you more time to take action (for example, 10 days).

  • Info

Alert with the lowest priority. The number of calendar days you enter for this alert should be higher than the other two alerts types (for example, 15 days).

When defining a days' supply type, you can also specify a user exit for the minimum days' supply values. User exits can be used, for example, to define different minimum days' supply for particular products. If you specify a user exit in the days' supply type, this will overwrite the values for the minimum days' supply. For more information, see the document on the user exit APOCV001.

Integration

Alerts for the minimum days' supply are displayed:

  • In the Alert Monitor . The alerts are displayed in the Alert Monitor for each pegging area. You can overwrite the days' supply types and thus the minimum days' supply values from Customizing by branching to the profile maintenance from the initial screen of the Alert Monitor.

  • In the Product View . The days' supply of the pegging area with the lowest days' supply is displayed for each of the days' supply types. One alert is thus displayed for this one pegging area. Alerts for other pegging areas of the product can only be seen in the Alert Monitor.
