PPM and Mode Selection (Heuristic SAP_PP_SL001)

Use

There can be several production process models (PPM) for a product and there can be several modes in a PPM plan for an operation. Each alternative (PPM or mode) leads to a specific availability date, for a planned order that is to be newly created. During planning with shelf life conditions, the heuristics for planning standard lots (SAP_PP_002 and SAP_PP_SL001) choose the alternative with the latest availability date that observes the shelf life conditions.

If it is not possible to schedule a PPM or mode without violating the shelf life conditions, the heuristic chooses the best possible solution. A distinction can be made here between the following situations:

  • The availability date is too early for all alternatives; that is, the shelf life has expired by the requirements date

The heuristic selects the alternative with the latest availability date here. Therefore the heuristic prefers the alternative where the shelf life is exceeded as little as possible.

  • The availability date is too late for all alternatives; that is, the maturation time is not yet completed by the requirements date

The heuristic selects the alternative with the earliest availability date here. Therefore the heuristic prefers the alternative where the maturation time is completed as soon after the requirements date as possible.

  • The availability date is too early or too late for all alternatives

The heuristic selects the alternative with the latest availability date from the alternatives with the early availability dates here.
