Creation of Manufacturing Orders in SAP R/3

Use

If you plan an assembly and its interchangeable components in SAP APO in a shop floor production scenario, you can only create manufacturing orders for the assembly in SAP R/3 by transferring the planned orders created in SAP APO (with set conversion indicator) as manufacturing orders to SAP R/3. You may not :

  • Transfer planned orders for the assembly to SAP R/3 and then execute the conversion in SAP R/3

  • Manually create manufacturing orders in SAP R/3

This is the only way to ensure that you retain a consistent plan that takes account of the product interchangeability master data defined in SAP APO.

Creating manufacturing orders directly in SAP R/3 has the following consequences:

  • If you transfer a planned order to SAP R/3, without the conversion indicator set, and convert it there into a manufacturing order, the system deletes the planned order in SAP APO and creates the manufacturing order new in SAP APO. In the explosion of the in-house production source of supply that is then required here, the system uses the components required in the source of supply. Therefore, the product substitutions contained in the planned order are lost.

  • If you manually create a manufacturing order in SAP R/3, the system does not take the product interchangeability master data into consideration in SAP APO. To take account of this data, you would have to perform an ATP check in PP/DS for the manufacturing order.

    Note Note

You cannot transfer manufacturing orders with a multiple substitution to SAP R/3.

    End of the note.
