Function documentationMulti-Resource Scheduling Heuristic

You can use the new multi-resource scheduling heuristic (SAP_MULT_SCH) to switch modes and sources of supply according to defined time blocks, so as to keep the receipts as close to the required date as possible.

Multi-resource scheduling provides the following advantages:

  • Complies better with due dates

  • Supports finite production planning scenarios with all alternative resources

  • Allows alternative resources to be modeled using not only modes but also alternative sources of supply

Note Note

This heuristic does not schedule process orders. It considers only planned orders for scheduling, subject to their fulfilling all other prerequisites.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

The following master data has been maintained:

  • Location

  • Products

  • Resources

  • PPM/PDS (Alternative PDS should have different resources)

  • Multiple orders for the finished product on the same day

The heuristic has been added to the heuristic profile to be accessible from the Detailed Scheduling Planning Board. In Customizing, go to Start of the navigation path Advanced Planning and Optimization Next navigation step Supply Chain Planning Next navigation step Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) Next navigation step Heuristics Next navigation step Maintain Heuristic Profiles End of the navigation path.

You have activated the business function SCM-APO-PPS, Continuous Production and Multi-Resource Scheduling (SCM_APO_PPDS_PI).

Activities

  1. Run transaction /SAPAPO/CDPS0 for the Detailed Scheduling Planning Board.

  2. Select the overall profile SAP001 and planning version 000.

  3. Enter the resource, location, or product in which the orders exist. Choose Execute.

  4. Choose Profiles and select the heuristic profile defined in Customizing. Then choose Copy (Enter) to save the setting.

  5. Select a resource with the orders.

  6. Choose Start of the navigation path Functions Next navigation step Heuristic Next navigation step Multi-Resource Scheduling Heuristic End of the navigation path to run the heuristic.

The orders are scheduled in alternative modes, and different sources of supply are chosen after the switch over time.
