Adoption of Substitute Components in In-House Production Order

Use

To take account of product interchangeability and to update the components in an in-house production order based on the supersession chain, the following functions are available in PP/DS:

  • Setting the conversion indicator

It is relevant to set the conversion indicator if you plan an assembly produced in-house with an interchangeable component and process the manufacturing orders for the assembly in SAP R/3. To transfer a planned order for the assembly to SAP R/3 as a manufacturing order, you set the conversion indicator for the planned order in PP/DS. The system automatically adopts substitute components from the supersession chain in the order and reduces the dependent requirement for the original component. The adoption of substitute components is based on the product substitution orders, which are assigned to the interchangeable original component of the planned order through pegging relationships.

  • ATP check

Using the ATP check in the in-house production order, you update the components and dependent requirements in the in-house production order based on the current availability situation of the components in the supersession chain. The ATP check is relevant, in particular:

    • If you process repetitive manufacturing planned orders in SAP APO or in SAP R/3

    • If you process manufacturing orders in SAP R/3 and want to update the component substitutions in the order after a planning change

For more information on using these functions in PP/DS scenarios, see:

  • InC with Order Processing in SAP R/3

  • InC in Repetitive Manufacturing with Production Backflush

Prerequisites

In order that both functions provide an effective (that is, executable) result, and the in-house production order then contains as many up-to-date and available components as possible:

  • You should have planned the product substitutions beforehand in SAP APO using an MRP planning run

  • You should execute these functions as close before the order execution as possible and based on the most up-to-date planning possible

Activities

When the system adopts a component in the planned order, it creates the planning-relevant event Component substitution in the in-house production order in PP/DS . In the standard system, the system reacts to this event by setting a planning file entry.
